this is excellent:

“it’s not just public goods that don’t matter: it’s the public. The leaders Trump socializes with most often do not have to answer to a public, and that seems like a pretty good gig to the president - and (more importantly) his circle.”
Great piece from Paul Musgrave on how Trump is, in essence, taking America private:

Second, I think it is very odd to publicly attack someone in writing, and then when they respond to you by saying there is a lot of data to prove your interpretation of things wrong, you just dismiss them as 'the leader of the anti-me bandwagon'. I do not think that's a good way to pursue truth

Sometimes you really do need macro brain to be able to say "people basically spend the same amount of money on stuff, deflation can only happen if everyone is spending less money. If thats true people are making less money and now money is precious"
There has been one (1) period of sustained deflation (eg prices down for multiple years in a row) since the 1910s. That was the Great Depression. I understand why people (not Chris, he gets it) naively think prices should fall but I cannot emphasize enough how Bad that would be.

Well, this is an utter disaster for science.

This gutting of peer review is very likely driven by Project 2025/OMB/Vought, very likely is about funding junk science, and very likely is coming for #NIH and biomedical research next.

ROI is a very simple accounting term. It means "Return on Investment" and specifically any amount earned or saved beyond the investment cost is a positive ROI.
A project that does not have an ROI cost, by definition, more than it earned or saved.
So WSJ is correct here.
