The first thing Virginia Spanberger did after being sworn in as Governor of Virginia was repeal Youngkin’s executive order requiring state and local law enforcement to cooperate with ICE.

This is the kind of leadership Democratic governors nationwide should be emulating.

Wow, sure would be pretty crazy if a ton of experts in the artificial intelligence field relentlessly warned everyone about this state of affairs being inevitable over and over for years.

Just so people outside of MN know - a lot of the US citizens getting “arrested” by ICE never get processed at Whipple. They are roughed up during the arrest and then often dropped off miles from where they were picked up. It means we don’t know the true scale of what ICE is doing based on ICE stats

These people are so disgusting. I hope they never know peace after inflicting such violence on others.
One of the stories that makes me the saddest out of this ICE invasion is one out of the Minnesota Star Tribune today about ICE agents eating at a little Mexican restaurant in the small town of Willmar, Minn, —and then, when they were done, arresting some of the workers.

Your regular reminder that there is no legal path from martial law to suspending elections in this country.

That doesn't mean there is no path. It just means that we need to reject the framing that the federal government has any legal authority to cease elections.

I have yet to see any confirmed reports of actual violence against ICE in Minnesota (or even any major property damage).

I hope everyone whose been saying "play nice or he'll invoke the Insurrection Act" now understand that the facts on the ground have nothing to do with that eventuality.

There are strategic reasons why nonviolent opposition may be the best play here, but when folks like Walz chide folks preemptively about respectable protest... all they are really doing is make people wonder if these really ARE protesters on the edge of violence.

Don't cede ground to their narrative.

Highlight how disciplined resistance have been if you'd like but don't offer instruction.

It will be correctly seen by the right as ceding the narrative, and they will take full advantage.

The murder of Renee Nicole Good didn’t stop in Minnesota, though. Conservatives have been killing her every day since—smearing this wife and mother’s name in an attempt to prove that she was, in fact, a total fucking bitch.

The reason this government, these banks, and just this world in general refuses to give every day people any kind of break is because they need your money. They’ve already spent money they didn’t have and now they need yours to keep up the facade.

There are countless examples like this just stacking up with absolutely no accountability from any case, just operating with absolute impunity to commit overt crimes and trample any semblance of rights to US citizens and immigrants alike
A Minnesota state representative said two Richfield Target employees detained by U.S. Border Patrol on Jan. 8 were U.S. citizens and were both injured in the incident.
Target employees detained by federal officers were U.S. citizens, legislator says
Minnesota Rep. Michael Howard, who represents Richfield, said the employees also were injured in the incident.

This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
one of the most effective weapons we have against fascism is mockery, especially when its really funny
It occurs to me all the yelling at ICE in MPLS isn't merely funny. Getting made fun of like this is awful for morale. ICE is losing field officers faster than it can wave them through training, and a big part of it is how little of this these little weasels can take.

America is now at the heavily armed secret police doing warrantless door-to-door house raids in search of undesirable ethnicities and/or political dissenters stage. The difference from well known historical cases is down to scale.
A video of ICE agents conducting door-to-door searches today in Minneapolis

The homeowner requests a warrant repeatedly, is told they don't require one, then is told they're getting it, then the agents storm in anyway

They also point a taser at her to try and disrupt filming

When will companies realize that the problem isn’t showing us what we might want to buy but that we simply don’t have the funds to keep engaging in casual shopping.

Instead of these invasive measures to give us the perfect ad for what we’re most susceptible to buy just give fucking living wages
Big/bad news for consumers. Google is out today with an announcement of how they plan to integrate shopping into their AI offerings including search and Gemini. The plan includes “personalized upselling.” I.e. Analyzing your chat data and using it to overcharge you. 1/2
