Its incredible that the institutions and the left are held to such high standards, when the right and Trump can say and do what they want without consequence

Where is the fairness in that?

They definitely shouldn't watch Senile Don read out "I, then state your name... Do solemnly swear..." Whilst being booed.

I agree,
But that's a big 'if'.
We still need to learn a lot more about what really went on. So far it seems to me the right-wingers on the board were unhappy with the BBC's perceived left-wing bias.
Which is a joke because Farage is on every single day.

The UK’s deference to the US — and to Trump in particular — is almost laughable.

Does anyone in D10 seriously believe that these “sacrifices” will change anything about the so-called “special relationship”, other than keeping Britain in its usual role as the ridiculed junior partner?

As ever, the loathsome Farage rubs his greedy little hands with glee as he hopes that GB’news’ will profit from the ‘scandal’ he helped to whip up…
Honest to god… why do we have to be so kicked about by these ultra-cynical right wing hysterics?

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

We must protect it as we do the nhs. It has some flaws but as it says in Reith’s founding statement the BBC is to “inform, educate & entertain” which it has done for decades until a gaggle of political appointees by the Tory Party tilted it too far right.
We must defend our public broadcaster!

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

The other fact that people are ignoring is that Prescott is not some random chap plucked out of obscurity to do an 'independent' report. He's part of the campaign from the start.
The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.
