Whenever I start to get bummed out about how bad video games are. I listen to my housemate tell me about all the wild shit she's doing & discovering in her Caves of Qud run, and remember how cool video games can be

Roomba was the first, and for a long time the only, somewhat viable consumer robotics company. Before them the robot business was all defense contracts and stuff like sheep shearing. Making money on robots is waaaaay harder than science fiction (and current robotics hype) let on.
iRobot, the company that makes the Roomba robot vacuum cleaner, has filed for bankruptcy. It has reached a restructuring support agreement that will hand control to its main supplier and lender Shenzhen PICEA Robotics, and Santrum Hong Kong. bloom.bg/49aEN06

Sam Altman: hey I made a machine that stole literally all your stuff in order to make CSAM of your child actors, sometimes it encourages people to kill themselves

Disney: Holy shit here's a billion dollars

Altman: the machine loses more than that each week but thank you. Soon it will become god.

The optimal local business is an electronics store where the owner knows every gadget produced since the late 70s by serial number and is building an EMP in his spare time (just in case of robots) The typical local business is a disinterested 40-something who only stocks things no one will ever buy.

Clients, who have made me toil for weeks over indescribably small details, are now approving & producing in-house commercial artwork that looks like a fever dream.

In Chicago, a Nativity scene features a zip-tied baby Jesus and Roman centurions in "ICE" vests.

Near Boston, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are absent from a Nativity scene, replaced with a sign reading "ICE was here."

It's all part of growing religious blowback to ICE. religionnews.com/2025/12/05/i...
ICE Nativity scenes: Churches reimagine Christmas story amid deportations
(RNS) — 'We know that Jesus was born into a Roman imperial occupation, and pretty much immediately becomes a refugee in Egypt, has to flee and faces political violence,' the Rev. Michael Woolf said.

UPDATE: Another Chicago-area church has put up an immigration-themed Nativity scene.

A church member at Urban Village Church sent this one along, where Mary, Joseph and Jesus are gone and replaced with a sign that reads: “Due to ICE activity in our community, the Holy Family is in hiding.”

there is a problem with datacenters. they have a huge footprint. they use a huge amount of electricity. much of the electricity they use is eating up renewable capacity and forcing us to keep natgas plants alive.

agricultural water usage in the county is 3.5 orders of magnitude larger.
You can have strong feels about data centers without spreading this kind of nonsense. Bad environmental journalism
