it is insane to me that you could basically get two narrative designers who can basically solve any problem within scope constraints. it’s like having people parachute in to rescue whatever you need fixing far beyond what you thought you could get

If you hire me AND bruno, you could get two long-time collaborators who will make your material, whatever it is, *alarmingly* unhinged

I'm not advocating for violent protests. But I am challenging the naive notion that non-violent resistance can singlehandedly stop what's happening. I know everybody wants to hang on to the notion that it was MLK's tactics alone that people responded to in the 60s. It's just not true.

newsom's devotion to taking evenly-scheduled breaks from actually usefully standing up against the Trump administration to be a world-class piece of shit for absolutely no reason is genuinely something to behold. like does he schedule it on his calendar or is it just a thing he's in the mood for

I think it's worth mentioning that this sort of intellectual property landlordism is incompatible with the Internet. You can't want all:

a) Content you upload to the Internet being private
b) Content you upload to the Internet being accessible
c) Computers and the Internet like you understand them
keytryer.net
This is just how computers work, data has to be transmitted to the user system to be reproduced for viewing. You either make that difficult, like in closed social media, or you want an open social media with open clients which make that easy.

Because AI models do not in fact reproduce their training contents, it’s trivial for companies to train on anything they want and just not disclose it, and you can’t really do anything about it

Part of my writing process for SPINE was to write exploratory essays and conduct interviews on ideas that informed the project.

The first interview in this series is with @jdragsky.bsky.social on playing with books, what ttrpgs can learn from fiction, and being a “slut for physical books”!

one thing thats crazy is that all art movements are just systems of hundreds of individual little unique goblins, none of whom did the exact movement; particles of the movement wave

it sucks that its useful to know the name of every art movement

It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

hi can people roll on this and tell me about the ordinary people they create
If you need to determine the trajectory of a mundane person's life, roll a number of D8s equal to the number of decades they've been alive, and arrange them in order to see how their life occurred, with each dice result representing the tenor of that decade. Each result represents 10 years of their life. Ignore any results which contradict anything established about the character.
Glyph
Years 10-19
Years 20-39
Years 40-59
Years 60+
⦵
Death of a parent, loss of a home, freak tragic accident.
Death of a lover, exiled from home, haunted by guilt.
Death of a child, hopes dashed, legacy spoiled.
Haunted by death, wandering aimlessly, forgotten and alone.
♃
Regular peasant life, learned a trade, hard honest work.
Marriage proposal, building a home, parent to children.
Build a strong home, surrounded by family, many calm and unremarkable days.
Cared for by family, keep the fire warm, rocking chair at heart.
♂
Fought to survive, learned violence too young, nasty scar.
Skilled warrior, foes slain, battlefield dominated.
War came to the door, home burned, grief spread.
Stern and cold, guardian against the dark, prefers the night.
♀
Privileged youth, loving parents, everything provided for.
A lover and a layabout, heartbreaker, homewrecker.
Talented artist, creative training, earned acclaim from peers.
Master of a craft, feared and ruthless teacher, auspicious legacy.
☿
Traveled from distant lands, found a new home, sailed aboard a ship.
Explore new lands, venture far from home, go on adventures.
Reinvent self somewhere new, earn a fortune in trade, captain a sturdy ship.
Dream of distant lands, send others on quests, seek out forgotten treasure.
☾
Encountered magic, miraculous change, still carry the mark.
Student of old knowledge, ambitious researcher, curious youth.
Bitter intellectual, disillusioned by the world, desperate for enlightenment.
Wise old soul, educator to children, a bit wickerwise.

I love award shows. It's no secret. It's why I've spent months writing, refining, and trying to distill my Ennies judging experience.

It's a 4-part series (I know, I know). One article a day. Today's lays out my goals and puts the focus on awards in general.

The number of parents who gasped when we told them no, we could not tell them what their kids checked out because their kids have a right to privacy!

We offered “one book cards” to kids whose parents wouldn’t agree to let them have a card. They could take out a book at a time. The FURY.
blumagaincurios.bsky.social
My feelings about Banned Books Week are that no indeedy parents do NOT have the right to decide what their own children read, because children are human beings with the right to dignity and privacy.

Agreeing w the parents rights premise shifts the Overton window in the wrong ass direction.
