20 with extra points for listening to 8-track tapes, riding in the hatchback of my parents' Ford Pinto, and having a smallpox vaccine scar.

With alt text.

But also, I feel like lists like these don't address how much slower tech moved because of how much more expensive it was. Like 8 track players were short lived but I used one in the 90s because my parents were cheap as fuck

In America, can you get cheap and easily accessible medical care? No.

Can you at least send your kid to a school between kindergarten through college without fear of them being murdered by a maligned lone wolf radicalized by fascist death cult internet culture? Also no.

If our cities are shaped by stories, then great books form the foundation of knowledge and inspiration needed to build more liveable, inclusive and prosperous places.

These are 24 titles we read this year that informed our approach to changing hearts, minds and streets. An #UrbanismBookClub thread.

Each semester I go in my classroom and I try to figure out what we would use to block the doors, if it would be safe to crawl out the windows, where we could hide if there was a mass shooter in campus. It’s such an indictment of this country how we have normalized these preventable tragedies.

We are experiencing a more severe than usual flu season and COVID rates are starting to rise. If you want to reduce your chances of getting sick, one of the most effective things you can do is wear a high quality mask. 🤫

I’m sorry but it is abusive and an act of violence to refuse deaf and hard of hearing people access to language. When the president refuses sign language interpreters for his speeches, he is being violent and modeling abusive behavior for parents and caregivers of deaf and hard of hearing people.

One family that we are assisting through our holiday drive has been living out of a hotel for a while due to not being able to afford long term housing. Their main ask is for hygiene essentials. This is why we do holiday mutual aid, to help meet real needs while still making the holidays special.

In other news, the whole thing about Calibri v. TNR isn't about a font face, it's about the fact that Calibri is easier for people with some disabilities to read.

They think any accommodation, however painless, should stop.

Every December, we are gifted a full 2-lb round of local monastery gouda. We always age the unopened cheese in the back of the fridge for a year or two because that extra time is totally worth the wait.

Anyway, we cut into the 2023 gouda tonight and it was *chef's kiss*.

Excellent letter on the proposed city Capital Budget from @yyahn.bsky.social!

Consider emailing [email protected] and [email protected] ahead of their joint hearing on this part of the budget this evening.
@cvillecityhall.bsky.social is on track to miss its own comprehensive plan & climate goals while budgeting so little for bike infra due to failure to identify projects.

I wrote a letter urging Council to fund a connected, protected network—not another decade of failure

I’m running for Congress in Virginia’s 5th District because families and workers deserve a fair shot. Costs keep rising while salaries aren’t - and MAGA Republicans are cutting food & health care to fund corporate tax breaks instead of defending Virginia’s families.

Every House Democrat has signed a discharge petition to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits.

We only need a few House Republicans to join us and save health care for millions of Americans.
Affordable Care Act subsidies that help millions of Americans pay for health insurance will expire in less than a month.

Households will probably face spiking insurance costs next year if a bipartisan deal can’t be reached.
