In a nutshell, I fear living in a world where everyone believes 2+2=5 "because ChatGPT says so"
@weeklyshowpodcast.bsky.social had a great AI discussion but didn't address my #1 fear: it'll be used w/ no double-checking its errors + hallucinations, to make unreviewable medical, financial, + legal decisions, + everyone will forget how to do things right b/c all they know to do is ask AI

It's incredibly demoralizing to constantly see the highest institutions of government and academia and the most important and widely seen news outlets knuckle under one after another, but then to see the gulf between that and the bravery of communities and neighbors and teachers - that's something

Heard some radio report about the DT talking to the GOP about their political headwinds. His recommendation: more scapegoating of trans people.

It does not seem to occur to any of them that doubling down on their all-punishment, no-reward policies is perhaps not a winning strategy.

rare to see an american politician speak in these terms and it rocks
“When I speak about making our city more affordable, my vision is not limited to the homes that we live in or the child care that we’re making universal — it’s also a vision where we make it possible for working people to afford lives of joy, of art, of rest, of expression.”

Look at the @washingtonpost.com phrasing in this headline.
She "ended up" in a "fatal encounter."

How Renee Good ended up in a fatal encounter with ICE in Minneapolis
Video made public Friday shows the 37-year-old and her wife exchanging words with ICE officers in the seconds before the shooting.

It’s important for ICE officers to wear masks to stop people like … [checks note] … the DHS secretary from doxxing them.
Kristi Noem, herself, supplied the method used to ID the agent. She said he "been dragged by a vehicle” in an earlier incident.

@startribune.com reporters, who know their way around court records, quickly unearthed his name and confirmed his identity.
The agent, Jonathan Ross, was dragged by a vehicle and injured during a June operation in the Twin Cities, court records show.

For 248 years the streets of America didn’t feature a roving masked federal kidnapping squad that might send you a Central American death camp or just murder you themselves, but getting rid of it now is some impossible lefty fantasy that professional Democrats lamentably must struggle against.
Classic Democratic no-win. All of them voted against the OBAA, which supercharged ICE funding and hiring. But they won't say they'd "abolish ICE" so they'll get yelled at (mostly by people who'll vote for them in the midterms after threatening not to).
Top Democrats decline to say if they would rein in ICE after Minnesota shooting

it is *both* that they think every inch a car moves is a threat, *and* they have created this situation by being ultra aggressive with window smashing, *and* that a large number of these officers want a reason to murder people in cold blood
What seems to be happening here is every fed has their paranoia dial cranked up to 11 and every time they see erratic driving behavior they assume murder. This is obviously not a mindset anyone can operate with.

im sorry i know it sucks but journalists are going to have to be willing to get fired for simply describing what they see happening with their own eyes, you look like fucking morons
"Was the officer struck by the vehicle, as President Trump insists, or did the car pass by or around him?"
If we only had some trusted institution that could adjudicate between competing claims by relying on facts.

A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.

I mean what would Trump reasonably do if Minnesota pressed charges. Deny funding to the state? He's already doing that!
Remember: Federal officials do not enjoy categorical, absolute immunity from state-level prosecutions. They are entitled to removal to federal court. But conduct that is unreasonable or unnecessary for the execution of their law enforcement duties is susceptible to criminal prosecution.

all of this is so completely deranged in so many unprecedented and incomprehensible ways that i genuinely don’t have any idea what one could possibly read that would make sense of any of it
i'll always say its worth it to study military related things but to be honest the problem we're facing now has little to do with knowledge and isn't going to be addressed by ingesting more knowledge

I'm skeptical that they can take meaningful action to do anything at all.
SEPTA is operating by hollowing out its capital fund because they couldn't agree on funding. Completely unsustainable.
Environmental and labor advocates are skeptical that lawmakers can overcome partisanship in the state Capitol and take meaningful action to address rising energy costs.

A point from @marisakabas.bsky.social that should go in your most core user's manual of this era.

"The Press" thinks people in power are good-intentioned and telling the truth not because of who the people are, but because *they are in power.*
