🚨 EXCLUSIVE: English hospitals that cut registered nurses saw more deaths while those hiring nurses saw more patients survive. Even when hospitals tried to fill gaps with non-nurses, deaths still went up. Major new study exposes dangerous NHS variation:

Using lower-paid workers to plug the gaps left by a failure to hire registered nurses damages safety, new research has shown

So basically, the way Aotearoa achieves success is [checks notes]

The National Party: Shit on your workers, let loose unchecked Corp takeovers!

The NZF Party: Police peoples genitals!

And the ACT Party? Increase access to guns and soak yourselves blind in piss!

HATERS AND WRECKERS ALL.
Because we definitely need more ways for people to access alcohol 🙄

Of course McKee is responsible for keeping her backers in the alcohol industry happy.

Post-war period fascinates me - we built *loads* of infra and houses but public debt levels fell. There must be things we can take from that era to inform what we do next.
Also fascinates me that the 1980 to 2008 period is considered a success - we maxed out our private debt, and what did we build?

Economic management should be about economics, not marketing

If you’re looking for a lift- and for policy that doesn’t hide bare minimum ideas behind the rhetoric of progress - take a look at the Greens platform.
For me, a timely reminder that we don’t move forward by lowering our expectations, but by affirming that hard things can and should be done.👇

It's worth noting that, at this point, the neoliberal socio-economic model put into place in NZ in the 1980s has lasted almost as long as the more social-democratic and protectionist model established under the first Labour government in the 1930s-40s. 🧵
