This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

U.S. plans to stop recommending most childhood vaccines, defer to doctors
The plan, which is not finalized, suggests children get fewer shots and shifts to a model telling parents to consult doctors to make their own vaccine choices.

Not sure who needs to hear this, but if a politician promises to make utility bills go down, they need to make them *go down over time*, not go down compared to a fictitious alternate universe that only exists in some think tank's models.

Retail electricity prices almost never go down.

NEW RESEARCH: UK heat pumps can perform far better than many think.

Our analysis of HeatPumpMonitor.org data shows well-designed systems achieve ~40% higher efficiency than past trials (SCoP 3.86 vs 2.81), cutting bills (~£224/yr) and emissions.

The PA House has passed bills to lower energy costs and shift to cleaner energy. The state Senate? Sitting on them. Pennsylvania’s progress is being stalled by an anti-environment Senate majority.

"AI could invent free renewable energy."

Or, y'know, we could deploy the stuff that works and is already cheaper than the fossil alternative, while doing the hard political work of figuring out how to pass the savings on to households, balancing the interests of shareholders and ratepayers.

In my opinion the president shouldn't constantly be like "Holy shit did you guys see this?" and repeating a thing he kinda heard on TV. I don't think that should be mostly what the president does.
He issued a correction, proving why he needs to stfu and let the cops do their jobs.

It’s a a goddamned ongoing tragedy, not a reality TV show, primed for him to drop the big reveal.

it's actually kinda funny in a way to get to the finish line of curing cancer and having the government go eh you know what. never mind
A tiny trial in New York has shown that personalized mRNA vaccines can provoke massive, lasting immune responses against pancreatic cancer, even as sweeping federal cuts now threaten the fragile labs required to produce them.

This boils down to "impeachment is hard so why bother to try" from a bunch of born losers
Significant statement from Jeffries and House Democratic leaders saying they will vote “present” on the motion to table Al Green’s resolution to impeach President Trump. They say they’re “laser-focused on fighting to lower the high cost of living” plus on health care and corruption.

main economic message from
the president is that you will be poorer and you will like it
Trump: "You can give up certain products. You could give up pencils. Because under the China policy, every child can get 37 pencils. They only need 1 or 2. They don't need that many. You always need steel. You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. 2 or 3 is nice. So we're doing things right."
