People having a lot of trouble understanding how Dems behave as a party don’t understand the Democratic Party.

It’s not a party united by ideology—like the GOP mostly is—it’s a bunch of constituencies in a basic (democratic) bargain: votes for government programs that benefit them.
So, as a Los Angeles neighborhood council member: accessibility isn’t an end unto itself

The ultimate goal is to improve the lives of the people you serve, & accessibility helps articulate needs/priorities & suggest novel solutions.

But also we need to be honest about ourselves as the public
Government should be accessible. The people who work for government, the people who influence its policies, should be accessible. Mamdani's doing this right.

lol if the mark of authentic human-made media is compassionate inclusion of trans people
Trump's new executive order about AI states that companies' models must not incorporate the idea that trans people exist as a concept. Seems bad.

Anybody gonna drop Part 3 into a google doc for us? Because as much as I would normally abhor not paying for a journalist’s work, they’ve both ceased to be journalists and I won’t give them a dime. Ever.

But I’m weak and would read.

It’s because bad pecan pie is just karo with nuts, but a good pecan pie is a great pecan pie
I think Pecan Pie is one of those things that is divisive now because it’s just a blob of sugar with nuts on it but to someone 150 years ago who ate shoes it was probably like having 12 orgasms at once

Again, White men would have been materially better off if Harris had won. Arguing voting for racism and sexism advances White men’s material interests by harming other groups is literally Trump’s campaign speech, & it’s wrong.

If you believe otherwise, you’ve confused Theory with fact.
I've literally written a dissertation on eugenics and Darwinism. Go be an idiot in someone else's replies.

The first official confirmation that Noem herself made the decision not to turn the planes around. A couple hundred men were tortured as a result — and soon after, the Supreme Court confirmed that the Trump admin’s Alien Enemies Act process was a total violation of due process.
BREAKING:

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

God it's so cool that so much of British and European nationalist politics has broadly been shaped by warehouse clickfarms rented by guys in South Asia running "how to make money from racist old people" workshops, and that this has had more influence on media and politics than any grassroots group

Think it's worth distinguishing between "people who work in tech" at the level of say, a Google PM, and the people at Google who are making these strategic decisions. The former mostly don't want to kill the Web; the latter are at *best* indifferent.

Being among the first interrogated and ultimately fired by DOGE, I certainly felt we were facing the business end of a right-wing conspiracy theory 🧵
DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

“One of the most powerful forms of climate communication is just telling people that a majority of other people think climate change is happening, human-caused, a serious problem and a priority for action,” said Prof Anthony Leiserowitz at Yale University in the US.
A huge 89% majority of global people [56% even in the United States] want stronger action to fight the #ClimateCrisis, but mistakenly believe they’re in a minority.

People want action. Smart cities are taking action. Nations should support city action.

A few years after that, I read EXCELLENT CADAVERS, an incredible book about the Mafia in Sicily, and I realized that's humanity's fundamental choice: build a system and keep trying to improve it, OR create a culture where everyone can take the law into their own hands. There's no third option.

In a more explicitly political sense, this happened to a lot of political and activist organizations. Many orgs that would have been activating people, delivering votes, or at least shaping the narrative died out or imploded due to online drama, and scrolling and right-wing slop filled the void.
