The eagerness to call us "biological males" was pretty alarming!

Ignoring the fact that "biological sex" is a loaded, political term pushed by Gender-Conservatives to treat trans people as unnatural---my biology has fucking changed! That's kind of the point!
Like, at first glance, I thought a fucking TERF had written it. It took me a little bit to realise this was a cis "ally" "defending us"

Stop this and actually fucking LISTEN to trans people and look up the science and stop doing this. It hurts us and we don't appreciate it

It's hard to determine whether the blame lies more with trans advocacy abandoning any and all radicalism while trying to find a palatable message for a cissexist society married to sex-essentialism, or with cis people's inherent discomfort with sex being mutable.

All I know is this fucking sucks.

It is 2025. The EHRC in the UK keeps trying to materialize a trans bathroom ban out of a muddled UKSC opinion third-sexing all trans people. A bill to criminalise those who provide trans minors with transition care passed in the US House of Representatives.

And cis "allies" still think this helps.

You *can* change your sex.

I *did* change mine.

If this makes you uncomfortable, stop being part of the problem.

transitioning is the best choice i’ve ever made in my life and the only regret i have with it is that i didn’t do it when i was younger

oh for sure i think it’s wild to go about this in person.
I wouldn't tell someone in person I didn't like their book (unless they asked repeatedly), but I do love this"That's your privilege" response because it indeed validates an individual experience without making it a personal confrontation. We've really gotten bad at de-escalating conflict graciously
i think this is a great response. disliking a book has become almost looked down upon when it isn’t also connected to some kind of author-related discourse. we really need to bring back the concept of not all books being to everyone’s liking and authors embracing this even when it stings to hear it

"I read your last book, and I was bored out of my mind."

"Well, that's your privilege."

100% using this Jessica Fletcher line from Murder, She Wrote when someone tells me at a con they didn't like a book 😆. Love this so much.

i like how you can immediately tell when a writer trying to write wlw doesn't think intimacy between women is a particularly interesting topic. i think that's why you shouldn't just ask people to write more GL out of some sense of obligation but only people who are kind of obsessed with it should

No, I 100% agree that computer RPGs these days have too much handholding. I, too, yearn for the days of being able to spend hours crafting my perfect build from hundreds of available options, only to discover that it mathematically cannot survive the mandatory rat fight portion of the first dungeon.

One of the simplest ways to see that creators aren’t bourgeois is that we don’t, as creators, appropriate other peoples’ labor.

We do labor that we can eventually make money from, we don’t make money from exploiting others. It’s the exploitative relation that characterizes the bourgeoisie.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

If writing is so easy why do people argue that they can’t do it without the pablumatic verbiage extruder

And if it’s so difficult then why do people think it’s not labour and writers are not workers

Aiglamenae should have been like this in chapter one. why did we have to wait till chapter four to engage with someone who can actually deal with the world around the characters in ways that dont read like the journal of a middle schooler who just learned how to curse

why did Harrow need to do all that to unlock Gideon’s cell door from the inside? she’s the fucking leader of the place why does she have to be discreet? who is going to care if it is found out that her parents are dead? this stuff is just…not explained???? this kind of thing doesnt irritate y’all???
November 28, 2025 at 3:50 AM
if the characters dont care what is happening around them and approach everything with tongue-in-cheek disaffected irony, why should readers give a shit?
November 28, 2025 at 2:44 AM
“her shoulders shook with very real fear and grief” oh jesus christ i could not give less of a fuck. if you feel it necessary to tell your reader the grief is “very real” you have failed as a writer. this feels all flashy baubles and zero substance.
