The Ellison duo taking over both CBS and CNN, as well as controlling a major social media network like TikTok, would be dangerous for democracy.

Some on the left are more ready to contemplate throwing minorities under the bus than to contemplate the ejection of certain toxic officials and inept leaders from senior positions. But real strategic wisdom (and ruthlessness, if you like that sort of thing) lies in the latter, not the former.

750,000 people signed up for Your Party and honestly, you could pick a dozen of them at random to form an organising committee and they'd do a better job than 90% of the people currently running the show.

NVIDIA has become a giant, unhealthy rock on which the US markets — and to some extent the US economy — sits, representing 7-to-8% of the value of the market and a large percentage of the $400 billion...

The impulse to say that erotica CAN'T say anything of value, that porn MUST be mindless indulgence, is an extension of this problem by the way.

Sex and kink are just parts of life. Art that explores both primarily can touch on other subjects meaningfully as well. Stop trying to silo everything.
The desexualisation of media (everyone is beautiful, and no one is horny) combined with an increasing hysteria around the 'pointlessness' of sex scenes is a key part of the fascistization of western culture and if we're going to fight back we're going to need to make it normal to be horny again.

Once again it’s not that conservatives deny the existence of racism, they merely deny the existence of racism against minorities.

White women, especially mothers, are extremely important to the mainstreaming of fascist narratives and we all ought to know how it works by now. See, she looks just like your mum, or your nan? You wouldn’t call your dear old Nanna a racist, would you?She just wants what’s best for you!!
This, from The Londoner yesterday, also features people on the march who claim not to be racists. Though the things they say prove otherwise

The Far Right is being actively normalised in the British mainstream.

I think this is true but I also think a lot of this is elite driven - the basic problem is the institutions meant to generate and propagate general knowledge in the UK (most especially but not uniquely the press) are just incredibly committed to terrible things, and the public are persuaded by them.
A bad policy like taking people out of inheritance tax rescued Osborne in 2007. The fuel duty freeze was forced on every govt after 2000

The litany is endless. Voters are constantly threatening governing politicians with consequences if they do anything the IFS etc might approve of! 4/

What’s interesting is that at some level these addled people still recognise that racism is shameful and wrong, and want to distance themselves from it. Part of fighting back has to be to refuse to indulge this absurdity and to call racism what it is

My own colleagues are silent.
