I spent the weekend at The Standard hotel in King's Cross for my mum's birthday. It's a very lovely hotel but these are their less-than-lovely Christmas decorations. (In fact, it's because they've donated the money they would have spent on Christmas decs to the Trussell Trust, so fair enough.)

Can you really even call yourself a writer if you've never used an ellipsis... (a parenthetical aside) and an em dash—in the same paragraph?

(this is a joke, don't yell at me)

(but also, I just did this, no regrets)

I'm sure you guys are all great at shopping like normal ppl but I wish I could remind some folks:
Take bags, or at least don't kick off at having to pay for one. That's been the law for 10 years now.
Don't fucking haggle, you're not Indiana Jones
You're not The Protagonist.
Neither's your kids.
In these busiest shopping weeks of the year, with everyone under horrible pressure over money, job security etc, try to be nice to retail staff (who likely have unreasonable sales targets from HQ to make up for a lousy retail year). Far too many stressed customers will behave appallingly right now.

We wake to mornings of cold magic. Exhale dragon-breath, crunch frost-frozen leaves as we walk. The year is dying. We feel it as rush of ghosts, a shivering that foretells the blade of ice upon its neck. No wonder this is the season where folklore burns bright. – #DAKilroy, 1982 #Folklore

As C.L. Nolan said: “We must acknowledge there are places where the land growls.”
"[Kipling] told me that in his own part of Sussex he had noticed a sharp division between benevolent lands and tracts of the countryside which seemed maleficent. 'There is a wood, he told me, 'which is full of a sense of ferocity and evil, secretive and menacing.'"

When you finish a book and you just know when you go onto goodreads the ratings will be abysmal because so many people hate a story that doesn't do the things they want it to, instead of appreciating that an author is doing their own damn thing.
