They recovered over 180 bullet shells at the CDC. Debris from shattered glass is still being cleaned up. I am completely stunned at how quickly the news cycle has moved on. This was an act of terrorism targeting public health experts, and the response seems to be a collective shrug.

Compliance is not a binary, it's a spectrum. And while this administration is defying way more court orders than any prior administration, it still complies with a great number -- indeed, the majority -- of them.

The Administration’s policy of mass immigrant exclusion includes:

— stripping citizenship from natural-born US citizens
— deporting US citizen children of unauthorized parents
— mass voiding of legal status from large classes of noncitizen immigrants

Not a ‘crackdown’. A purge.
NEW: the Trump admin has moved to terminate TPS for Honduras and Nicaragua, covering over 50,000 people

Both of these designations date back to 1999, meaning Trump wants to strip legal status from people here legally who have had a background check every 18 months for the last 26 years.

Democrats getting occasional "Gotcha" clips don't matter because the cabinet members know there are no consequences.

So until Democrats start pulling any enforcement levers they can find (contempt, impeachment), they’re just watching the neutering of their oversight.

All right, I’m signing off of ACIP to go about my day. My brief summary is that as expected, fACIP members are unqualified to carefully and knowledgeably review vaccine data. They don’t understand the epidemiological studies.

Each of them should wave this flag.

Step 1: Sow doubt about vaccine safety and efficacy; prey on people who have reason to mistrust/distrust authority

Step 2: Watch trends in vaccine uptake decrease

Step 3: Cite low vaccine uptake as a reason to limit vaccine availability and weaken vaccine recommendations
Meissner asks if public uptake ought to influence ACIP recommendations.

This is the game right there. The vaccines are safe and effective and a benefit to all ages. But these contrarians have sowed doubt in them and are using that to kill them.

For my NIH focused peeps, think this through if you have not yet done so. *All* extramural support keeps your University vibrant. Loss of NSF etc will just pressure other sources of funding including NIH IDC and DC.
It's not just #NIH. It's not just #NSF. It's not just #NASA.

The whole scientific community has to make clear that all science across fed agencies is being destroyed in the US.

We can't just ask for our particular piece of the pie. The whole pie is being thrown out - saving your bit won't work.

Parents deserve information they can trust. The AAP has published the childhood immunization schedule for decades that has been grounded in science and relied upon by pediatricians and families alike. If you have questions, your pediatrician is your best source for answers and guidance.

Where we are is professional medical organizations having to provide evidence-based information because we have a government committee that actively engages in misinformation. Devastating consequences.
After RFK Jr fired the entire vaccine advisory committee and replaced them with cranks (something he specifically promised he would not do), fake ACIP is beginning its first 2-day meeting.

ICE's actions in how they arrested her also vile. This is a woman who has been diligently checking in with ICE since before it even existed, back when it was INS — for more than a quarter of a century.

And yet they grabbed her outside her home while she was gardening. Why not just call her in?

Pretty much. There's no debate that they CAN deport her (although from the circumstances it seems quite likely they violated regulations on revocation of orders of supervision), but the question is why the HELL would you deport someone like her who's had a stay of removal since 1998?

Science news is particularly grim this week. For NSF funding, 2 key fronts:

1) freeze on ALL existing grants (portal is down - no $$ going out, including reimbursements) www.nature.com/articles/d41...

2) budget proposes 40% overall cut & 15% cap on indirects (lawsuits blocked same for NIH in Feb)

Even in conflict we’ve collaborated w/medicine. At the height of the Cold War, the US & USSR worked together to eradicate smallpox and develop a polio vaccine. Scientists shared info/samples across the Iron Curtain. We understood then that medicines aren’t a battlefield. We can choose that again. 8/
