When you want me dead, it's hard to "meet you in the middle". Like, broken limbs? 6mos to live diagnosis? Coma? Someone else dies instead? No thanks.
Well... yeah.

I know she's just kind of saying whatever, but it's on-brand for Bari Weiss to review a damning story about the US sending people to a concentration camp and respond "we can't air this, have you even asked Tom Homan if he feels bad about any of it yet?" Perfect readout of who she sees, and doesn't.

You know what delights me. Historical foods. 1200yrs ago, someone made the first batch of Dijon mustard, and ever since then, everyone's been like, yeah, gimme a lil dab of that.

When you tell a story - and even the hardest news piece is a story - who you cast as subjects, people with agency and feelings and humanity, is one of the most central decisions you make in the process of crafting it. People making stories tell on themselves all the time in that aspect.

This Venezuela situation scares me, guys. Is the angle plain grift/theft/bloodthirstiness/racism? Is it to take a huge oil producer out of the world market so more countries are forced to do business w/Putin despite sanctions? Is it so we're will be at war in 2028 and elections can be put off?

I'm made & disgusted & not assuming good intent. Yesterday I saw an apartment building w/solar panels. My 1st thought was what an awesome rent perk-- no or reduced electricity. Then I was like, nah, the landlord probably isn't doing that. 1/?however long this angry tirade lasts

How many LLMs are paying membership dues, how many LLMs are volunteering at events, how many LLMs are selling books by hand or word of mouth, how many LLMs are contributing to fellow writers' health crisis go-fund-me's?

Chatgtfo.
Another Nebula Awards nomination cycle is in full swing, and the addition of poetry and comics, along with the presence of LLMs in industry, required careful consideration.

Read on, and vote well!

We trust our voters & look forward to what they choose to celebrate.

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

The other day, after my F streak while talking politics, I vowed to severely limit my effenheimers. Not for pearl-clutchy reasons, just b/c I'm a writer. I have an awesome vocab & I use it with verve. Why content myself with 1 word. And yet, after seeing this, the Fs are bubbling, bubbling.

Why so many laws of late requiring adults to manhandle children's bodies? Trans ppl just want to play sports and have a public restroom. People from other countries just want the chance for a better life. Maybe grown dudes obsessed with kids' undies is true problem beleaguering our nation.
BREAKING: The House of Representatives just passed a bill that would subject immigrant children to invasive bodily searches and keep them in detention instead of releasing them to their families.

The Senate must vote no on this horrific bill.

Again I say: how fucking interesting that remote work technology is bad and not worth adopting despite all research pointing to productivity gains, but genAI which offers NOTHING is so important to adopt and force on people who have no use for it despite all the horrible things genAI does

Just finished reading Strongmen - Mussolini to the Present.

Not exactly the present anymore as it was written in 2020-ish. And while it's not a great book, 8th grader cribbing from Wikipedia vibes, it's demoralizing.

The right-leaning authoritative leader playbook is astonishing small. 1/?

Feels like a market niche should be creating itself for specifically anti-AI consumers, and yet I don't see much evidence for such a thing. I can buy cheese without dairy in it but I can't buy a new phone without AI.
In light of Adobe's plans to add ChatGPT to everything, I need to an alternative for doing the usual writer stuff with PDFs (open them, combine files, sign them, save them). What definitely meets my PDF needs without funding this specific lake-boiling, thieving, corporate monstrosity?
