Again: 'immigration' is not a real political topic.

'Immigration' is a container, for all of the problems of late stage neoliberalism - underfunded public services, degraded housing, low pay, social disintegration etc - all packaged together, and blamed on the very least powerful people in society.

Budget 2025.

The wealthy hardly hit.

Minor tweaks on dividend and mansion tax.
No wealth tax.
No alignment of taxes on dividends & capital gains tax with taxation of wages.
Partnerships won't pay NIC on partners' share of profits
No financial transactions tax.

April 2022 Income Tax Threshold £12,570
April 2031 Income Tax Threshold £12,570

Should be about £16,970.

Meaning every person earning £16,970 or more is paying £1,231.86 more in tax.

Threshold freezes are a tax on the poorest.

A great thread which clearly illustrates the *reality* of the current motability system, and helps to show why I wholeheartedly believe that Reeves' changes are performative appeasement measures with zero positive impact, but which do continue to harm and demonise vulnerable groups.
#Motability
Pretty clear from some of the commentary on Motability that a lot of people don’t understand:

(a) what PIP or its eligibility criteria are

(b) that it’s first and foremost a cash benefit (even the mobility component)

(c) that if you opt for a more expensive car under Motability you pay the excess

Civil liberties and human rights are worth fighting for. Once they are gone, they are hard to get back. Everyone should be up in arms about Starmer's clearly fascist and totalitarian government.

If you are eligible for the mobility component of PIP and you want to spend *your own money on top of that* on having a nicer modified car, why shouldn't you? Should screen readers only work on Chromebooks?

Love this accepted mantra of "you can't tax your way to growth"... Yes you can, and it's what happened in every developed nation during the high point of the mid 20th century when growth was consistently higher than the last 45 years of low tax low spend neoliberalism.

The 50 wealthiest families own more wealth than the bottom 50% of the population.

How can this Labour Government say this is a "cost of living" budget and refuse to tax the rich?

They care about protecting power and wealth. And cost of living is a buzz phrase for them. Dire.

UPDATE - ARRESTS

Arrests are so slow so far that after two hours only a handful of around 150 peaceful sign-holders have been removed from the pavement.

Prepared for the long-haul, the foil blankets and chocolate biscuits have come out. #Terrorism

How easily they are persuaded🙄

470,000 children lifted out of poverty, but 1 million in poverty rather than absolute poverty and 4.1 million remain there. Frozen Housing benefits, welfare cuts and keeping the frozen tax threshold will mean more children are likely to fall in to poverty in future
Scrapping the two-child benefit cap in full will lift hundreds of thousands of kids out of poverty over the course of this Parliament.

A major victory for all the families who have suffered hardship because of it and all those who campaigned for so long to end it.

Last revamped in 2018 with £1.8 million of EU development money and another £1 million in business development cash.

Original development also received significant EU funding.

Farage, by contrast, will give Llandudno nothing but hot air and lies.

I have never been to a party where this behaviour is acceptable, let alone expected.

I go to parties (rarely, admittedy) to see friends. This is nothing like my understanding of either parties or fun.

This privileged, powerful man seems utterly broken. It's tragic and terrifying in equal measure.
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen

Just increasingly pissed off at that 'Everyone just blames capitalism 😏' take. It's late stage capitalism mate. Capitalism burns the planet, scarcity worsens, migration increases, the wealthy hoard and need scapegoats

Why has this disappeared from the headlines?

The genocide never ended — and our government is still complicit.
