this is why I'm extremely bleak on social media, you will always be shown emotionally compelling stories of crime or people in poverty, there will literally never not be more of that content than you could possibly consume regardless of the macro-reality. what the fuck are the charts supposed to do?

There entire thrust was 'you must be a liar or a loser if you are worse off or treading water harder' and it's like, nooooo, I was already that close to poverty line supporting 2 people on 57k, and there's probably enough people like me that blowing smoke and sunshine about how good it was wrong.

imo the left implicitly cedes a lot of mindshare to the right by trying to make individual advice societal advice. while it's just objectively true that structural forces determine most of your life, that's not really good advice *for a person* to hear. gotta focus on the 20-30% they can control

I truly don’t get the appeal of podcasts having to be video now. Podcasts are at their very best when you’re doing something else, working out or playing videogames etc, and no good podcaster has ever been someone who should be shown on screen that’s just not how that works. It’s a goblin job.

The more I think about it, the more the options converge around “meeting that could have been an email” or “something extremely extremely bad” with nothing in between.
I don't know what this whole "let's suddenly make all ~800 US generals and admirals gather in one room" business is about, but if nothing else I would want to stay a comfortable blast radius away from Quantico on that day.
