I need people not from Portland to understand that a majority of the escalations happening here are the direct result of the far right grifting machine. They are another arm of the fascist regime and have been manufacturing content and spreading lies to manufacture consent. It's as simple as that.

I don't remember what year a portion was set aside for Newberry Volcano Nat. Mon, but I do know they excluded areas from it that were expected to be most promising for geothermal development.

It’s Nobel announcement week, and anyone with Trump’s phone number could do something really, really funny on Friday morning.

Portland Oregon Antifa

I'd like to humbly suggest we use "Grab 'em by the Couch" as our rallying cry.

It's a triple entendre!

I've never before seen a photo that shows so clearly Long Valley *is* a caldera! ⚒️

We all need a little caldera in our life, right?
Long valley caldera from plane window looking north. Crowley lake at bottom of pic. Caldera rim highlight by cumulus clouds popping up over the topographic high. Mono Lake is in the distant top left.

I love that happiness is so elusive, but you can find disappointment absolutely anywhere.

In honor of National Poetry Day, the greatest parody rewrite of all time:
Screen cap of parodic version of William Blake's "The Tyger" that begins:
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?

Eight years ago, I published my grand unified theory as to why time itself is dilated and distorted under Trump's rule.
a cartoon in which a scientist explains that Trump's brain is a dense vortex of narcissism, creating a black hole, and we are all trapped in the event horizon

That was a movie I really *wanted* to like. Unfortunately, it's a mess, beginning to end.

America is currently a giant experiment to see how long we can keep stuffing a year's worth of news and outrage into every single day before everyone's heads explode

Thirty years ago Monday, astronomers announced the first planet around a Sunlike star. Since then they have cataloged more than 6,000 alien worlds.

I asked a bunch of astronomers what their favorite exoplanet is, and wrote about it for @nature.com. What's yours?

These alien planets are astronomers’ favourites: here’s why
Space scientists look back on 30 years of exoplanet discoveries — from rows of massive ‘super-Earths‘ to worlds with perfectly synchronized orbits.
