This is a global far right power grab, so the sooner everybody realizes that and puts aside their deeply outdated notions around national identity, which got us here to begin with, the better. The only way out is through, but the only way through is all of us fighting these climate warlords together

Democrats could act like a real opposition party, refusing to validate Trump malfeasance with votes, and setting up a shadow cabinet that regularly communicates how Democrats would be different. But nah.

It’s not only a majority of Democratic voters that hate this approach. US allies see it too.
The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.

If history cares enough to look back at the nerdzis’ obsessive hatred of Sweet Baby, history will be utterly baffled by such an embarrassing grudge.

It might be the stupidest of all their manufactured outrages, one of the most clear cut examples of them getting mad at their own imaginations.

isn't it wild how we actually live in a world with cyberpsychosis, but instead of being able to get cybernetic limbs it comes from a chat program that "yes ands" too hard

This. Realising in my mid 30s that my brain basically took to the task it was given, and maybe I should not give it the task of obsessing about every potential negative outcome, saved my life. Not true of all brains etc etc, but I could have had a far more chill 20s if I’d gotten there sooner
Watching doc about resilience that reaffirms many changes I made last few years to my mental outlook (I read a LOT of brain books). Brains are hallucination engines. If the story is the world is shit, everything is fucked, brain reframes every interaction this way. It impacts behavior; shuts us down

I cannot stress this enough: this is not possible

in a literal technological sense: you cannot train an AI and expect even comprehensible results with under ~1 million pieces of data, nobody can supply all that with the variance needed. You can only achieve it through wanton scraping
Larian CEO says Divinity could have gen AI assets in it but only if the tools are trained on the studio's own data.

"If we use a GenAI model to create in-game assets, then it'll be trained on data we own."

Hello Tim Cook I worked at Tumblr when you gave us 48 hours to get rid of all the consenting, adult boobs. Up all night at your whim, out of the blue. But you're still cool with Twitter and its CSAM and revenge porn and whatever the fuck this is? Why do you even HAVE guidelines?
Previously, several of these companies, like Apple, IBM, and Disney, have paused advertising on X in response to antisemitic content. But antisemitism on X never slowed, sexual abuse imagery increased, and all of these companies quietly resumed advertising anyways.

Why isn't there a bigger Grok boycott?
Advertisers, politicians, and investors are still all-in on X, despite a sexual abuse crisis.

kind of wild that in the span of like 20 years we've circled all the way back around to "get a film camera and never post any photos of yourself or anyone else really online ever" being the most reasonable position

"you have not played the game unless you've played the game" is one of my more annoying but unshakable opinions
the whole "don't play the game, just watch a video on youtube that will explain its story to you" is so disheartening because the issue of accessibility is genuinely really important but it's always just people who want to be spoon-fed nicely quantifiable information

stop desecrating important touchstones in the canon with your slop cannon. these are not In Conversation with the original works, nor are they works that were inspired by them. to say they're shallow hack jobs appropriating cultural cachet is an insult to bootleg dealers and forgeries.

i think this is why i have a healthier relationship with the term “indie” than others, because despite calling myself one for years, i have not allowed it to become part of my internal, personal identity.

and if it’s not property of mine, nobody can take it away from me

I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.

One of my really irritating professional opinions is I think you should never refer to anything you make as "content" or yourself as a "content creator." Be more specific about exactly what it is that you do. Me? I'm a writer. And I don't write "content"!
the term "content creator" served it's purpose very well. conditioning people into seeing everyone as anyone and everything as anything, mostly among the ruling class who found it most convenient for their pockets. in that sense, generating slop is the final result of content creation
the enthusiasm for generative AI would not have been possible without prior decades of capitalist conditioning to view works of art as products, rather than acts of culture and shared human life

Seeing people in the comments saying that To a T was unfun and essentially that he deserves this if he can't make a good game.

Gamers, I don't know how else to say this, artists are not supposed to be punished with financial ruin for making imperfect art. That's such a fucked up idea you have
Keita Takahashi (Katamari, Wattam, Noby Noby Boy) has moved back to Japan, and says he may be forced to quit the games industry due to To a T underperforming.

He also says he'd love to work on Katamari again, and for someone to invest in his studio.
