If you think women here can't be forced backwards...

These are women in Parliament in Iran in the mid-1970's.

Their decline feels familiar.

A reaction to women having too many rights.
A fear of what was happening to traditional family.
A desire for younger wives.
A closing of the fist.

Have you heard that the reclassification of several degrees to *non-professional* by the DOE is because they are all mandatory reporters of child abuse? This is another take that also makes sense. Maybe both reasons are true, but the effect will NOT be good for anyone.

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

DOGE is down to about 45 employees, but others have burrowed their way into government agencies as full time employees. Some are helping Vought's efforts to downsize the government. Others are implementing private AI across government.

we have PrEP because of these monkey studies. animal welfare in medical research is extremely strictly limited and regulated to ensure ethical use. there is no replacement for these animal models in biomedical research.
EXCLUSIVE: CDC to end all monkey studies. Decision handed down by recent college grad and former DOGE employee who is now deputy chief of staff at the agency. Animals were being used in studies of HIV prevention. Some may be euthanized. My latest for @science.org
Exclusive: CDC to end all monkey research
Studies related to HIV and other infectious diseases will be phased out, sources say; fate of the agency's animals remains unclear

Our ability to critique the system & to identify all that is failing around us only the tip of the iceberg.

Developing the skills to bypass the system, build community infrastructure & navigate messy dynamics/contentious relationships is the bulk of the work.

What kind of humans just watch?

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

One day, we will all be following multiple investigations and trials that will end with the obliteration of the Trump brand and the crippling of Trump businesses.
I may not be alive when it happens, but it will happen.

The irony here is painful.

Alice Wong wrote a column for Vogue called Disability Visibility. You can still find all her writing for Vogue under her author name.

But *Disability Visibility* - also the name of the advocacy group she launched - has been erased.

Exactly how disabled people often are.
The new owners of Teen Vogue have already erased her column.

This regime won't end with an election.
