My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

AI companies are playing a game wherein these computer programs are presented to the public as autonomous individuals capable of issuing a meaningful apology. The machine is just a machine. Human beings owe the apology for building the machine irresponsibly and unleashing it on the world.
so x dot com’s ai generated CSAM and they admitted it may violate US law and … i haven’t seen in anyone in power say much at all or call to stop using the platform

It is kind of wild that no big media outlet has busted open the story of who is making DHS' posts on X. Whoever that may be is certainly plugged into hardcore white supremacist internet propaganda with a harder edge. "Groyper" would be underselling it. This is Daily Stormer-tier sludge.

My boss has been using Chat gpt all fucking year and getting information (usually incomplete and occasionally flat out wrong) instantly. They have devolved into the worst manager I have had in my life.
I'm not worried about people being abusive to their AI chatbots, especially men being sexually abusive, from the POV of "AI chatbots are a real sentient guy being harmed", but I feel like the way you repeatedly learn to treat something that can't say no *must* bleed into how you treat humans, right?

What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.”

What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”

Funny how that works.

Literally everything the principals involved here say is just word salad nonsense that doesn't even approach meaning enough to be a lie, but it's also worth noting that the game given up as an example of this tech has 500k downloads on the Android app store. www.ft.com/content/9b1b...

It blows my mind that you can create a startup based on a fucking absurd series of lies and impossible promises, make billions of dollars while companies cut staffing believing the lie, then walk away from the smoldering crater without being guillotined straight to hell

Anti-trans demagogue and fifth place swimmer Riley Gaines earned $470,000+ last year from a conservative non-profit.

Notably, $420k was incentive-based.

A neat little window into the way the transphobic grift is being compensated.

I wonder what the per-post rate is?

The “AI” has not read the book.

Even if the book
was in its training data,
it has just absorbed it
as a set
of statistics.
It will juggle you a “summary”
that might
or might not
relate to the conclusions
of the actual text.

The only way
you’ll know
is to read it
yourself.

This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:

Remember, Ley & news.corp et al aren't talking to you, or even about you. They're screaming at each other & mistaking the echo as a response.

Most Australians want to honour the victims, have stronger gun laws and to get on with their holidays in peace free of unhinged ranting (relatives excepted).

There was no "get a smartphone or you'll be left behind" marketing, because smartphones are actually useful.

If your invention is good, you don't have to use that kind of pressure to market it.
It's like all of these hucksters and charlatans aren't actually technologists.

You don't have to threaten people to adopt a technology. If you do, it's worthless. You don't have to say "OH NO. YOU'LL BE LEFT BEHIND!"

It's all a con. People looking to make a ton of money and get out fast.

If people honestly want to define indie game as a self published it would mean the category will almost exclusively be rich people and financially successful studios. Which is the most country club ass way to look at this medium and I hate it.

This sort of thing gives me pause. We know Trump 1 "lost" 1500 kids at the border. Children in cages. Florida Concentration Camps. Deporting veterans to Somalia. USAID. ICE.

With what they are publicly ok with, even happy about (they celebrated the end of USAID with cake) I struggle with this.
This is what makes me take a moment because they gleefully showed everyone the video of missiles blowing up the Venezuelan fishermen who survived the first strike, and bragged about *that* so what is in the files that had them this paranoid?

Truth is they have been trying to push these recommendations through for a substantial part of the year and finally got a big enough crowbar. Which devalues the tragedy by exploiting it.

How can you know if your workers are “okay” with using genAI tools if you have so much power over them should they push back?
