I know there are more nuanced takes and authoritative studies to reference, but the entirety of my argument for UBI is that we need 1000000% more people working on goofy lil' toys and weirdo puppets.
Never in my fucken life would I have imagined I’d be sending a strongly worded email at 1:00am to a group of dumbass corporate managers voicing my concerns regarding “time expenditure considerations” for my kitchen team

I’m just supposed to be making goofy lil’ toys and weirdo puppets

Weird how they keep finding more money to fund the gestapo that is damaging job numbers by deporting workers but can't find any for a universal healthcare system that will save money, a free housing for homeless folk program that will save money, or universal basic income that'll boost the economy.

When a sitting representative refers to the Super Bowl halftime show as “pornography,” people should use that to reflect on how they and other representatives are simultaneously working to ban, censor, and restrict “pornography” and what that actually means

I really want people to think about this. After all the insane lawsuits, all the threats, all the bullshit weve seen from this admin and the targets who kneeled in fear, an average Joe called the president a Pedophile protector to his face and didn't get touched. That's the Power of a union.

We're having a DIFFERENT crossroads moment with(in) America.... but the whole damn country is wrestling with a massive identity crisis. We're not immune.

As our needs, desires, and dreams change, who we "applaud" will, too.

1. no you didn't, you retconning fucks

2. your decades of anti-governance "free market" "government never functions" propaganda paved the way for the complete authoritarian decimation of labor, consumer, environmental protections

Weird dream where some guys broke into my house and pelted me with eggs after checking my fridge to see if they bought the same eggs as me.

They had different colored eggs.

Also, it didn't look like my house, but it felt like the house was mine in my dream.

"Writing" 200 AI books/year, Canadian politico's hoarding rentals, Border Patrol agents living on rice and beans, Florida teens working as Mar-a-Lago's "masseuses"- If we had UBI, *none* of this would be necessary. If we keep doing bad stuff cuz we fear poverty, BAN. POVERTY.

"Sure, ICE is bad, but we need to deport illegal immigrants"

No you don't.

If immigration enforcement leads to concentration camps and roving death squads, maybe it's time to just get rid of the concept of illegal immigration entirely. You've tried it, it's a bad idea in practice, so bin it.

every time I do a thread like this about a good election result I get a whole lot of “don’t get ahead of yourself, we still gotta make sure people are motivated for November” replies/quotes and while I understand the sentiment you know what gets people motivated?

winning! let yourself get excited!
Dems are now overperforming the 2024 lean of red districts by, uh, 30+ points in special elections

I’m not sure “apocalyptic” is sufficient to describe how the environment is starting to look for the GOP in November
RESULT: Democrat Chasity Martinez wins a special election for a legislative seat in Louisiana, 62% to 38%.

This was a district that Trump carried by 13% last year, so a big overperformance by Dems, but the seat was already Dem-held.

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

This is not a tool of democratization, artists are not some privileged elite, and all the jargon and references to socialist thinkers and labor theory in the world can't conceal that you're devaluing human skills and helping to gut a field that beautifies and expands the world

AI is not alive. It cannot translate human experiences. It cannot feel for you, and even if it could, it would only be that much clearer that its output is not something YOU made. It has no relation to you.

I dream of having enough stability in our culture that anyone who wants to can pursue the arts, but the meaning comes from that pursuit, from translating human experiences through skills acquired over time. Art is labor, but it isn't just some commodity that can be pulped and reconstituted.
