What an outburst of joy, of pride.
Ireland are into the play offs for World Cup Qualification.
Our football team has always had a deep connection to communities all over this island and beyond. Tonight is no different. Young men pulling on the green jersey #COYBIG 1/ 🧵 #Speirgorm

This is an excellent point.
I would love Ireland to qualify for the World Cup for all the usual reasons. But it would also be fantastic to have the whole country festooned in tricolours that haven't been put up by the "Ireland is Full" lot.

It's always important to remember that Peadar Tóibín was so butthurt about not being able to force women to be pregnant against their will that he formed his own political party about it so any time he opens his mouth on anything you should immediately dismiss it and come back to that central point

Just sent out this free piece. I hear some saying yesterday's summit changed little--nothing could be further from the truth. The summit helped Russia and hurt Ukraine. It had 3 main components.
First, US-Russian relations are being normalized in front of our eyes. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

The meeting which could have been an email.
Trump did not need a meeting with Putin to end the war.

He should simply have sent Putin a diplomatic cable telling him to end the invasion or the US would provide Ukraine with the firepower and equipment needed to do so.

Trump is a spineless piece of shit, he caves at every opportunity.
Putin wants Trump to sign on to Russia’s genocidal war of aggression. “Ukraine isn’t a real country” is the active measure at work here.

Trump gives no pushback and puts no pressure on Putin to observe a ceasefire.

Pretty good chance he gets a Trump Tower Moscow out of this which is what he’s wanted all along
Former US Ambassador to Russia: Putin doesn't look at all of this stuff as a sign of strength. He looks at it as a sign of weakness. He had to do absolutely nothing to get this meeting. Putin has gained everything and given nothing in return

“This is exactly the moment Putin has been craving. He was received on American soil as an equal for a meeting of great powers. The red carpet, the handshake, the flyover of planes—only North Korea could have arranged such a welcome for someone accused of war crimes.” Sky News’ Ivor Bennett.

This, in a nutshell, is why O’Leary talks down the Metro. He makes more money the fewer options there are for airport transit. Of course none of the news outlets that reported his misinformation verbatim ever bothered to mention this obvious conflict of interest.
I can understand why a company that gets commission from selling airport taxis, airport parking, airport coach tickets and car rentals may not want to compete with a metro. But MetroLink is about much more than Ryanair's business strategy or even the airport itself.

I delivered the 700 page business case and cost benefit analysis for MetroLink to Michael O'Leary's office yesterday.

O'Leary said on RTÉ Radio that there’s been no cost-benefit analysis done on Metrolink which was then repeated on multiple news outlets.

In the articles I have read in the mainstream press Jon Boyne has been giving space to share his feelings, his human response to this, which is exactly as it should be.

But the 14 authors, and one judge are not afforded the same space. /8
