When I was little, I believed that adult people in charge of stuff were all really smart, because they wouldn't be in charge of stuff if they weren't; like, you couldn't be stupid and still have responsibilities. And while I have been wrong about many things in my life, I was wrongest about that.

If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

I think one of the biggest cleavages in our society that no one talks about is the division between those that think powerful people must be held to a higher standard than non-powerful people and those who think powerful people should be flattered and sucked up to.

I think the Kimmel stuff is quite serious and bad, but taking a rich guy off the air for speech is not as harsh as agents of the state grabbing someone over speech and deporting them without due process, and the latter person is clearly more vulnerable, come on.

So many netizens tonight seem to be indulging in the kind of hopeful flights of fancy typically reserved for kids on Xmas Eve. It’s all silly, of course. But seeing the joy it brings warms the heart. We haven’t lost the capacity to dream.

Past "this changes everything" tech I recall:
-"Cell phones," apprx 1980s-onward
-Personal computers, late 70s-on
-Email, 80s-on
-Internet, 90s-on
-"Smart phones," 2000s-on
-Social media, 2000s-on

QED:
1)Indeed "changed everything"
2)But NOT in ways most experts foresaw

A government-sanctioned "truth arbiter" will soon arrive at CBS. Their role will be to ensure that journalists do not criticize this Administration or express views that conflict with its agenda.

This is a betrayal—not just of journalistic independence, but of the public trust. 🧵

Secession is unthinkable, but this is the kind of thing that triggers it. The reporting says the FBI "has agreed" to help, but on what basis? Apparently a senator's request, which is not a law. So, we're looking at a lawless action by FBI targeting another state entity w/in its plain legal authority

The way dems have been campaigning since at least 2016 is summed up in one word. Annoying.

And it stems from the middle management style of wanting to see numbers on graphs. Everything is metrics and if the metrics aren't right you dial up the Annoying.

It's been obvious for years that, apart from a handful of congressional districts, "Republican-lite" picks up a trivial number of swing voters while depressing base turnout, resulting in a net loss.

Problem is, the most influential people in our party prefer a loss to a win by anyone to their left.
EXCLUSIVE: Democratic voters who skipped the 2024 election favor candidates like Bernie Sanders and AOC. Polling shows they believe inequality is at the heart of America’s problems and health care should be available to everyone.
Democratic Voters Who Skipped 2024 Election Want Candidates Like Bernie, AOC
New research suggests the prevailing wisdom in Washington — the idea that Democrats tacked too far to the left last year — might be wrong.

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad.

There’s not.

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?
