As much as I’ve long had enormous respect for Dr. Offit, unfortunately I think he’s wrong about this. COVID taught us that death from disease will no longer “do the education.” We’re now well and truly screwed. Dr. Offit is working from the perspective of a pre-social media prepandemic world.
One of the things about trust is that it is efficient. It saves you having to invest a lot of time and effort in verification, and if placed in the right places, saves you a lot of pain.

"The diseases will do the education" is what we get when we don't trust.
