A national newspaper journalist went on a British TV channel to claim police stats showed asylum-seekers committed 44% of sex crimes in Dorset.

This shocking claim was treated as fact by the channel which promoted the clip on social media where it was amplified by AI.

Except... it's bollocks.

Watching Zack Polanski on Trevor Phillips, it seems incredible to me that interviewers still seem to think the 'I put it to that you are not prepared to annihilate humanity' nuclear question is still seen as some sort of gotcha. It's Rememberance Sunday, we've learned the sum of nothing.

This is the rule of law in the UK.

20 years in prison for stealing a phone.

8,493 persons serving indefinite prison sentences, often for petty crime.

No one charged for the Post Office scandal, Grenfell fire, cladding scandal, mortgage prisoners, banking frauds.

Who does the law serve?
Nothing will change until the political system is freed from the clutches of corporations and the super-rich
The law is being used to enforce existing power structures for the benefit of the few

In 'How They Broke Britain', I do a pretty good job of detailing the depth & breadth of Tufton Street/Tory/Murdoch/Mail attempts to scupper the BBC, even as I castigate some presenters for going too easy on precisely the people who seek the Corporation's abolition. But I should have done more. 1/2

Why are right-wing media outlets so 'exercised' by the editing of a Panorama documentary? James O’Brien has an idea.

When a government - or a media outfit - can tell the difference between immigration and asylum I might take it seriously.

It's nice to have some good news. This feels pretty big. Very happy to see a successful conversion of thorium into uranium in a molten salt reactor.
China found in U.S. archives an energy source that could power its future for 20,000 years - and made it work
I’m not exaggerating.

Once you provide people seeking asylum with the right to work they are less likely to become victims of exploitation, which directly impacts the genuine criminals, making it harder for them to sell illegal vapes etc, so you combat actual crime, while protecting people. 3/

This goes past poor reporting into being wilfully misleading. Despite identifying exploitation, no mention of it as an issue, or the human trafficking often involved. Instead just uncritically repeating the misleading claim that "illegal working is a pull factor". 1/

The real threat to NYC isn’t millionaires fleeing tax hikes. It's the crushing cost of living that pushes working families out.

The USDA has $6 billion in contingency reserves for occasions like this. The Trump regime is making a purely political choice (one that is illegal of course) to stop paying SNAP benefits. They believe that if 40 million Americans start going hungry, Democrats will get the blame, helping Trump.

The UK Greens are currently the highest polling Green party in Europe. Despite the disadvantage created by FPTP and the poor state of the economy, which makes Green parties' core issues less popular. Clearly a result of frustration of progressives with Labour and appeal of @zackpolanski.bsky.social
Our latest Westminster voting intention (26-27 Oct) has Labour on their lowest figure ever recorded by YouGov, with the Greens on their highest

Reform UK: 27% (+1 from 19-20 Oct)
Labour: 17% (-3)
Conservatives: 17% (=)
Greens: 16% (+1)
Lib Dems: 15% (=)
SNP: 3% (-1)
