I suspect whatever drug regime he's on stimulates his maximum daily moments of mental clarity, but is also hastening his descent into dementia. His henchmen will squeeze him like a sponge until he has nothing left to give.

He's very clear communicator, which in his case reflects the fact he's thought through the logic of his stated positions.

When the AI bubble bursts and shatters the world economy, I reckon people will be ripping it out of their businesses as fast as they can. It will become a moral imperative.

Thing I just learned. “Lede” as in “bury the lede” is a deliberate misspelling of “lead”. It’s part of a lexicon of misspellings used for annotations by journalists and subs so that notes on copy are removed, rather than included in the body of the text by accident. Others include “dek” and “hed”.

If anyone at the premiere tonight heard a “THAT’S FUCKIN’ RIGHT!” yelled during the end credits of BLACK PHONE 2 where it declared that the movie cannot be repurposed to train AI, that was me.
crobertcargill.bsky.social
There’s an interview going around about AI, so before there are any questions, let me state unequivocally that BLACK PHONE 2 is 100% organic. AI was not used at any stage of the filmmaking from idea generation, research, look books, writing, onscreen images - anything. We’re old school and love it.

Here’s this week’s Better Offline. I’m joined by @davidjroth.bsky.social and @vicmsong.bsky.social to talk about Sora 2, Meta’s AR glasses, the “friend” pendant, and why none of these products can ever truly deliver meaningful friendship.

The big takeaway from this episode is that Ed Zitron has watched a lot of episodes of Australian Married At First Sight.

@scottjohn.bsky.social I recall watching Big Al build a while impersonation of Mike Rann from this one catchphrase.

We're paying over half a billion dollars to prop up criminal-created global miner Glencore's Mount Isa copper smelter ... for just 2 years!

And we're taking how much ownership, for all that money? Don't answer that.

Mining giant gets $600m worth of taxpayer funds to keep refinery open
The last Australian copper smelter processing third-party product will stay open after its owner accepted a support package.

Husic is a good communicator, cuts through with minimum effort.

Ed Husic, Labor MP, made some great points on Afternoon Briefing yesterday.

"The reason why prices are so high is because we export a phenomenal amount of gas."

We can remedy supply constraints without opening new gas projects by diverting uncontracted gas to the domestic market.

Shanghai'd by my wife Betty, I worked for 25 (unpaid, not easy) years helping to address food security, food equity, on Martha's Vineyard. That's how I met, & had a few beers in an idyllic setting, with Rep McGovern, Congress's most unyielding advocate for food justice, especially for children.1/

I liked the movie, but I actually preferred William Goldman's novel. Just an insanely brilliant bit of writing.

“Marathon Man” premieres 49 years ago today.

Dustin Hoffman had tried various techniques “to appear out-of-it during the dental scenes,” director John Schlesinger recalled. “I had to completely reshoot all the close-ups. That’s when [Lawrence] Olivier said to me ‘Why doesn’t he just try ACTING?’”

You can’t make video games about comedy alcoholism any more, because of woke.
A ZX Spectrum game from the 1980s called Mr Wino. A blue M&M character sways drunkenly surround by empty bottles. Text on the cover reads “drinking is for Mr Wino not kids!”

TV news frame still of the interview where Stephen Miller says the President has plenary authority. The interviewer is frame left. Stephen Miller on the right of frame has been replaced by a thumb with an angry face.

A phenomenon I'm witnessing firsthand in Big Tech: small groups of cherry-picked "rock stars" are death-marching to release moonshot AI projects/features which, if successful, will put many of their colleagues out of work.

A rising tide lifts all boats? Not in Big Tech right now. Maybe never again.
