There were quite a few things that people told me that we just didn’t have room for in this story about how the US immigration crackdown is worrying scientists:

Here's a thread with a few of them:
‘Anxiety is palpable’: detention of researchers at US border spurs travel worries

NEW: The NIH has begun terminating grants about COVID-19, leaving long COVID funding in limbo, according to a new internal guidance document I obtained.

“Now that the pandemic is over, the grant funds are no longer necessary,” it says.

We published the full document in my latest for @nature.com:

Studies on climate change and South Africa are also on the latest list of grants to be terminated, according to updated documents obtained by Nature.

Not ICE. Border Patrol. They’re wearing Border Patrol uniforms with clear Border Patrol patches on them.

There are many videos of ICE officers doing outrageous stuff but a lot of the absolute worst videos are of Border Patrol, who are basically Bovino and Miller’s most aggressive tool right now.
ICE agents in Chicago violently detain a non verbal autistic man for being “non compliant”

He couldn’t “comply” because of his disability…they don’t care

This is not the first time they’ve gone after a disabled person

They target the most vulnerable because it’s an easy way to meet their quota

A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?

All in favor of replacing "lesser" with "wee" in bird names (wee goldfinch, wee egret, wee prairie chicken, etc.) say, "aye."

Do you think lesser goldfinches have self-esteem issues because of their name?

They may be lesser, but they're still pretty great in my opinion.
