Axios day after day acts as if there’s no history or context to anything they’re reporting about the Trump administration, as if you can take everything at far value in a normal moment in a normal presidency.

For any elected official who needs to hear this, I impart a lesson learned from the NFL:

When the other team is tired and on the back foot, you don’t call a timeout so they can catch their breath. You grind their fucking face into the dirt until the final whistle blows and you’ve won the game.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

ICE is better funded than most militaries

NEW: Amid ICE's rampage, Dems provided votes to fund ICE, Dem leader Hakeem Jeffries refused to whip votes against the funding, Dem Senate candidates opposed another Dem calling for ICE to be abolished - and a Dem think tank demanded Dems back "an aggressive plan to rebuild ICE."

again, I don't think "worse" or "better" is a very helpful way to talk about this.

we're seeing tactics long used against BIPOC expanded to target all political opposition, in part because support for BIPOC has expanded greatly. 1
Worse than Kent State, really than any episode I can think of probably dating back to Reconstruc & earlier b/c

1. continuing, not 1 off.
2. organized, not individual ofcrs losing it
3. literally at hand of federal government, which is
4. immediately lying & circling the wagons to prevent inves.

PLEASE WATCH: Video posted so far from today’s killing in Minneapolis shows the victim recording video with his smartphone, coming to the aid of two women and trying to stand between them and an ICE agent. He does not show a gun at all. Then, I count 10 shots.

And he didn’t. He tried to help a woman who’d just been assaulted. There was nothing rash, stupid, or radical about what he did. He showed kindness. And they killed him for it.

Here comes the video analysis:
- Pretti was shot 10 times after they took his gun
- He never "brandished" the gun, assaulted an agent
- They repeatedly pepper sprayed him at point blank range and beat him when he was down
- He was attempting to help a woman who an agent threw to the ground (battery)
