The US "banned 5 people from entering the country because it doesn’t like their speech. This ban, according to the State Dept, is necessary to protect free speech. If that sounds insane to you, congratulations on your reading comprehension."

Good piece about something bad, by @mmasnick.bsky.social.

The automated sexual abuse that Musk is doing right now should be national news. People should be going to prison for this shit. The logical conclusion to generative image creation and the internet, pure public automatic violence. Every Pizzagate fear just out in the open.

if you still use Twitter please understand that you are enabling and supporting this.

It’s only going to get worse, so you may as well leave now and start rebuilding your “following” anywhere else.
For the last few days on X, people (mainly women, and sometimes children) have had nonconsensual images of them in swimsuits (or much worse) requested by users and created by Grok.

Musk's only apparent response thus far has been to crack jokes about it.

I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.

He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.

Then look at the surface of Mars.

Then look up to the top right.

Spot Mars' moon Phobos high in the sky.

Then notice the bright spot beside Phobos.

That's Earth.

This probably seems minor to many people, but the resurgence of the r-word into everyday public speech has been one of THE most horrifying developments of the past decade. That a high federal official is using it in public commentary is dystopian and mind-blowing.

The ability to ask these questions as if they weren‘t stupid & dishonest has been a key aim of both the new world-wide right-wing movement and of the Kremlin. They want us to think there‘s no truth, only opinion; no morality, only power; that all choices are morally equivalent, & only tribe matters.

A leaked DoJ memo calls for prosecutors to charge people who film ICE with “domestic terrorism”

They don’t want their atrocities documented.

They don’t want a historical record.

They don’t want the world to know.

That’s why we have to keep filming. Keep speaking out.

This is FUCKED UP.

As someone who regularly works with people with dementia, it’s utterly unhinged to be manufacturing nonexistent memories for people who struggle with knowing how reliable their recollections are. Like that’s active cruelty, IMO.

Every Democrat running for office needs to promise investigations and full prosecutions from top to bottom, remove its funding bloat then break up the agency and distribute its core remaining useful functions across other agencies.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

that the Whos celebrate Christmas suggests some knowledge of Christ, but whether this is our anthropic Christ or a distinctive Who-Christ remains obscure; some have argued Christianity was introduced to them during their refuge with Horton, which of course turns us to the matter of Elephant Religion

This is Bari Weiss in stonewalling, chin-out, "I won't let the haters get to me" mode. Whether she gets away with it will be determined by whether Sharyn Alfonsi's colleagues at 60 Minutes and CBS News decide to fight back. Pelley, Stahl, Cooper--this decision goes on everyone's permanent record.
Almost every story Weiss greenlit at the Free Press lacked sufficient context. It's kinda their entire schtick.
