An aunt of the man at the middle of the standoff with ICE agents in Elgin last weekend says her nephew is not part of Tren de Aragua. DHS has said he’s part of the gang but when asked for evidence they offered little but “trust us.” His attorney said he was a painter & and uber driver.
‘The story of one more Venezuelan, one more Latino,’ says aunt of man arrested by ICE in Elgin standoff
His aunt describes him as an “incredibly hardworking” man with a huge heart. The Department of Homeland Security says he’s a suspected member of a Venezuelan gang.

This is what we all have to look forward to if you let them get away with doing this to an accused undocumented migrant.

Also we already have rulings on this. Passwords are speech and are protected for it.
Chavarria, a U.S. citizen, was held at the airport "for more than four hours and released only after he finally agreed to let the agents search his smartphone, tablet, and laptop computer. The agents...informed him that he had no Fourth Amendment right to resist." @pacificlegal.bsky.social is suing.
CBP agents held this U.S. citizen for hours until he agreed to let them search his electronic devices
A federal lawsuit argues that perusing travelers' personal data without a warrant or probable cause violates the Fourth Amendment.

I'm searching Getty Images and found some photos credited to the Boston Herald that redact the faces of ICE/federal agents. They don't redact the face of the guy they're arresting.

I'm curious about the ethics of doing this. I don't think I've ever seen this on Getty before.

She did make it back, and I am unreasonably relieved at this minor miracle. I want to live in a country where this is not a notable event...

Indiana’s Senate has voted AGAINST the GOP gerrymander that’d have locked in a 9-0 map.

This keeps the 7-2 map in place, saving two Democratic seats heading into 2026.

The vote failed big, 19/31.

The MAJORITY of the GOP senators opposed it!

This is really incredible. The government's battle to deport Abrego Garcia has apparently been based on a lie from the start. Not even the "gang affiliation" lie or the "human smuggling" lie, but the more basic assertion that he was ordered to be deported in the first place.
🚨Judge Xinis finds that, incredibly, Mr. Abrego Garcia was never ordered deported in 2019. She notes that every since this saga began all the way back in March, the government has NEVER been able to produce any evidence that the immigration judge actually issued a removal order.
