People want 'technology' to save them from climate change but we have most of the technology already. Solar, Wind turbines, Batteries, Heat pumps, Public transport, Electric vehicles. It just isn't the "sexy" sci-fi technology that some people fantasised.

My pettist of pet air pollution peeves: log burners on foggy days. You are literally gassing yourself and your entire neighbourhood in dense air pollution trapped at ground level. It is where the word smog (smoke + fog) comes from. Should be banned. Until then, just don't.

I'm so delighted that I complied with the Online Safety Act, blocking an accessibility feature on my site from UK users to 'protect the children' while Elon Musk's site can just generate CSAM with total impunity.

Blackadder Goes Forth.
Amazing poignant ending for a comedy series.
I saw it on the initial broadcast in 1989 and think about it each November.
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

When people argue that renewable energy sources are too expensive, remember that we don’t invade countries to seize wind farms and there are no solar cartels. Fossil fuels have enormous geopolitical, public health, and climate externalities.

Tech companies: we're going to load up unnecessary tech on stuff. What are we going to call it?

1990s marketers: we'll call everything e-whatever
2000s marketers: we'll call everything i-whatever
2020s marketers: we'll call everything AI

The amount of freedom and near-complete lack of legislation for the tech giants is astonishing when you even begin to think about it. We're still in the naive early internet mindset, but to say things have moved past this is the world's biggest understatement.

Reposted this yesterday but I’m doing it again because I feel so strongly. Video is much harder on women, who are expected to conform to much higher grooming standards, and also really on anyone who doesn’t look like a conventional white man, who can expect more nastiness bsky.app/profile/youn...
will also add - yes, this is my personal crusade - that turning podcasts into videos implicitly asks women to once again make more effort than men, as the bar for "camera-ready" for one gender is obviously higher than for the other
‘Painful to hear!’ How podcasts’ rush to video is turning them into dreadful listens

Michael Sheen is just. An exemplary human being in so many ways
The actor Michael Sheen used all his money to start a fake debt collecting business, buy 900 people in Wales's debt, and excused it. If Musk bought ALL $194 billion in medical debt in the U.S. and excused it in the same way, he'd still be the world's riches man by hundreds of billions of dollars.

There's no way that box is big enough to have SCSI/IDE/floppy drive ribbon cables in it. Or a parallel cable for a flatbed scanner.
this is the greatest feeling, when the cord box proves its utility to a family member
