I’m a financial journalist, I don’t cover defence. But I was born on a British army barracks in Germany. My brother is in the infantry and I attended the inquest of one of his soldiers, killed in Afghanistan. I saw his red eyed parents and the girlfriend holding their baby. One of many such losses.
