Right now there is a proposed bill requiring insurance, registration and a license to ride ANY e-bike in NJ, including low speed e-bikes that go under 20mph. This bill lumps all low speed e-bikes with higher speed devices under the term “motorized bicycles” and eliminates the

New Jersey Bike Walk Coalition is opposing the disastrous legislation advanced by statehouse Democrats, which would require all e-bikes, even Class I e-bikes that are limited to 20 mph, to be regulated the same as motorbikes, with license, registration, and insurance. www.nj.com/news/2025/12...
N.J. bill would require licenses, registration and insurance for all e-bikes
Under the proposed N.J. bill, riders of all e-bikes, even the slowest pedal-assist models, would need to license, register, and insure them.

Here we go again. This must not pass.
NJ Senate President Nick Scutari promised a semi-reasonable e-bike regulation bill. But S.4834 goes back to requiring registration, insurance and licensing for the most benign Class 1 e-bikes. #4834 #njleg

Today, I visited Maplewood to sign legislation expanding driver’s education to include lessons on how to safely and responsibly share our streets with pedestrians and cyclists.

This law is a critical step forward in our mission of ending road fatalities and building a stronger and safer New Jersey.

Mayor Fulop has worked *hard* and *persistently* over the last decade with progress on street redesigns, on the bike lane network, on transportation alternatives. Zero deaths in 2022 but he's kept going. He is about outcomes, not symbolic announcements. He will take that same approach to the state.

•Built NJ’s largest protected bike lane network
• ferries

I know many people feel an emotional connection to certain candidates in this race. But we can’t afford to let emotion cloud strategy.

the second most important election is the NJ Gov primary. Fulop is the only candidate who is unapologetically pro-housing. even more importantly, he will redirect over $10B in highway widening funds to transit
