this is really it — this case isn't about the legitimacy of birthright citizenship or the 14th amendment, it's about the legitimacy of the court, and any ruling that doesn't uphold the former decides the latter
Counterpoint:

The Supreme Court lacks the authority to change the text of the Constitution.

So either it affirms the text or (further, and more completely) nukes its authority as Constitutional arbiter.

There’s no third option. Art III (courts) can’t just usurp Art V (amendments).

The Supreme Court will ultimately decide whether to uphold the longstanding principle that grants citizenship to the children of non-citizens born in the U.S., following a legal challenge by the Trump administration. n.pr/48E1oko

Feel like machine dems will fuck this up by not running an every district/every state strategy. No R should be running unopposed next year.
Anyway, fingers crossed for more red districts to see 13 swings for the Dems, esp in states with large Hispanic populations.

Because you know how the TX gerrymander works, right? To make light-blue ones pink, it has to make formerly-red districts pink too.

Or, with a 13-point Dem swing? Blue.

Huh, weird. I just checked my Tribal ID and my US Passport and both are still valid.
Karoline Leavitt: “You’re either a U.S. citizen or not — You can’t be a U.S. citizen & a citizen of another country”

The Supreme Court thought differently as it ruled in 1967 that the government can’t strip U.S. citizenship unless a person voluntarily relinquishes it - not that they care

This is one of those things that I think is quietly important – when these people are talking shit about cities, Portland or Minneapolis or New York or Charlotte or wherever, you have to loudly say, “no, fuck you, you’re lying, that town and its people whip ass and you’re the asshole”

And should be understood as an attempt to use public pressure to get trans people out of public life. It’s not about rubrics, and the rubric isn’t the TA’s fucking fault.

But the precise mechanisms of pressure used here should be deeply concerning to anyone in academia or who cares about it.

So yeah, this is fundamentally about trans people and that cannot be elided, but the ways in which junior faculty are targeted and disposed of, while academic jobs are increasingly precarized, and political grandstanders seek to influence academic governance are fucking terrifying for everyone.

On @cancelmedaddy.bsky.social, we coined the term "Cancel Culture Grift Economy" to describe how this works.
Years ago, my colleagues at Business Insider and I tracked YouTuber “cancellation” arcs. What we found is that for many entertainers, “cancellation” actually sets the stage for a redemption arc, one that can raise their profile higher than ever. It wasn’t career-ending. It was fuel.

PSA, don’t give soaps and creams or other scented things as gifts. I have super sensitive skin and end up having to donate or trash some of the most beautiful handmade soaps and things and it makes me so sad.

I feel like the fractures we are seeing in the MAGA coalition have some people hoping the status quo will simply make a roaring comeback, and judicial consequences will simply engulf all of the bad guys. There's really no precedent that supports that expectation.

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Pies are in the oven. I cheated and used refrigerator crust but I didn’t want to cool my house down to make homemade crusts. The filling is really what matters anyway and I used Woodford bourbon and real vanilla.
