The UCP's second attempt to dress up the Alberta Sovereignty Within a United Canada Act with a motion to give the illusion of meaningfulness, is, as the authors conclude (after patiently explaining why), simply "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

It is great (and important) that judicial vacancies are getting so much attention. We undoubtedly need vacancies filled.

But to say that the backlog in crim and civil cases are wholly about judges misses the forest for the trees.

There is a larger resources (fed + prov) problem to fix.
Opinion - An obvious fix for Canada’s judge shortage: The logjam causing so many vacancies lies in the PMO and the justice minister’s office. Removing it would be simple, if the political will were there

If there are any criminal or family lawyers who need some advice/support assisting a client with FASD, I am happy to help. I have tons of experience.

This is a good resource. I was one of the organizers/presenters.

One of my favourite things about reading John Grisham is that in every book so far, there’s a main character who is in recovery. And it’s not the standard ‘chaotic alcoholic for spicy plot’ trope, it’s understated, quietly reinforced, subtly mentioned, and they’re usually One Of The Good Guys.

Avid hunter and Minister of Parks and Forestry just happens to expand hunting and his family just happens to run an outfitting company that would benefit from this. Totally normal grifter shit Alberta.
As of today, cougars can be hunted on the Alberta side of Cypress Hills Provincial Park. It's just the latest expansion of hunting under Todd Loewen, minister of parks and forestry — an avid hunter whose family runs a outfitting company. #ableg

Exciting!

Looking forward to little Devin Dreeshen's announcement to defund police forces and municipalities across Alberta!

Get ready for more property tax increases thanks to UCP defunding measures!

We have a politicized policing problem in Alberta when we have police services that target journalists such as @duncankinney.bsky.social and progressive elected politicians (as she then was) such as @sphillipsab.bsky.social. We need far more accountability.
This is insane:

Edmonton Police authorized a *7 month* surveillance operation targeting a journalist critical of police and followed his family doing mundane things

This covert operation was supposedly necessary to determine who vandalized a statue honouring a literal WW2 Nazi

NEWS: Justice Yake just offered Lebessis a qualified apology and said he won’t cite him in contempt. Still had strong words about him leaving court, which Yake said he’s never seen in his decades in practice.
New from me: a defence lawyer in Red Deer spent 10-15 minutes in jail after a dispute with a judge in court. He's accusing the judge of bullying and intimidation and says the practice of jailing lawyers should be abolished.
