Grok was one of the most downloaded apps in Ireland this week. Here's my explainer on the generative AI tool that is now creating illegal images of women and children

My word.

The Taoiseach, in China, says "platforms can be misused and abused or they can be used for positive reasons as well..." and says that should be considered carefully "before jumping to conclusions" on whether it's appropriate for the Government to be on X.

This is *still* going on by the way and it is incredible how little attention it's getting from media, politicians and others who are usually falling over themselves to talk about AI, women's rights and/or child protection
Two days later and the nonconsensual sexual material generator still hasn't been turned off, at this point it's time to start arresting people
If you want to see what the main use case for AI is to the average consumer, open Twitter, go to the @grok account and click on the "Media" tab

People keep claiming it's a "better window to the world" but actively posting and engaging on a platform where interactions and content are now effectively interchangable with 4Chan and whose own AI puts images of children in tiny bikinis on demand is a choice. There are far less harmful windows.

"The bill is deliberately drafted in such a way to ensure the government will never have to hold a referendum on investor courts ever again."

We all know why the government doesn't want to bring this to the people. They know people are against it, which is why they want to quietly push it through.

LOTR The Return of the King 3pm, Rathmines (Dublin), back when the cinema floor was so sticky you were afraid you might leave without your shoes. 4 people there; me, a fellow loner and a Dad with his tiny baby, in a pram. Tbf the baby slept through it all and I got to enjoy every second in peace :)
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

Right-wing media and so on don't actually like Linehan; they just hate trans people. If this loser is willing to destroy himself on the altar of their obsession, that's a sacrifice they are more than willing to make. Publishing his self-destructive ravings is irresponsible on so many levels.
Graham Linehan has such little self-awareness he *really* doesn’t understand how totally unhinged he seems in his ‘woe is me’ batshit crazy ranting! 😬

He’s the ‘cautionary tale’ of what obsessive ‘gender critical’ transphobia leads to: no friends, no life, and spaghetti carbonara for one!

Carl using his "particular set of skills" to show the Department of Housing's lack of them. Oh yeah, and Liam Neeson's idiocy thrown in for good measure. 💯
"It’s harder to date. Harder to think about having children. It’s harder to come to your own conclusions about what you earnestly want from life. It’s harder to realise who you are. It’s impossible to feel as though you are meeting your potential."

This week's column, more personal than usual.
Surrealing in the Years: 'How To Suffer Indignity' - a documentary by the Department of Housing
Narrated by Liam Neeson.

A lot of people are getting calls from 0044 numbers these days. I can't advise strongly enough, DO NOT ANSWER CALLS FROM THESE NUMBERS: those are UK numbers. You are at a very real risk of talking to an English person

When this "AI" bubble pops, the men pretending they weren't pushing the hype, like "critics" whose position is "AGI is real but LLMs aren't the way," who were in eugenicist and "AI existential risk"🙄 circles, will get specials discussing what they saw coming, when its the women who told you so.

Coffee thoughts:

Ireland is a polity where you can go and visit a Minister in a constituency office on a weekend to ask for help filling in a form.

The distance to/from officeholders is effectively zero.

But the distance for most people from *power* can be (invisible to them) huge.

Scandalously at 1am, the government has just pushed through a law with far reaching ramifications.

It allows them to sign up to a parallel court process only accessible by corporations. There they can sue Ireland if we do anything to interfere with their "right" to profit.

Like the Coca-Cola ad it's just a collection of random scenes with different random characters spliced together cos they can't get it to do anything else. They can't get it to do a narrative with central identifiable characters, settings, costumes etc. It's all just random crap shoved together
McDonald's has released an AI-generated Christmas ad

The studio behind it says they 'hardly slept' for several weeks while writing AI prompts and refining the shots — 'AI didn't make this film. We did'

Been asking this same question since Musk went to the Dark Side. It's amazing the number of Irish government institutions, TV and radio stations, and businesses that are still clinging on to this rancid platform. You are the company you keep.

Mark my words. They will not stop with trans people. ADHD and autism are already openly on the list of targets of these fascists.

You can be guaran-fuckin'-teed the women and gay folk throwing trans/nb people under the bus wouldn't be spared the same treatment, either.

then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

Holy moly, do people still think the U.S. is an ally of Europe? It is now an officially stated foreign policy goal to undermine the EU and centrist European governments that don't ideologically align with MAGA.
Europeans are waking up this morning to find the new US National Security Strategy (quietly) released. And what it has to say on Europe could not be clearer. On the „stark prospect of civilizations erasure“ for example. 👇
