The next time people complain that user research just slows things down, show them this towering monument of hubris. Quite staggering.
I legitimately didn't know they were competing with Steam and it's crazy to me that they burnt so much money on what sounds like something with very little (or wildly misguided) market research.

Like the Laffer Curve, the idea that adding VAT to private school fees would price out the people who want to pay to make sure their kids don’t get educated with povvos turns out to be bullshit. In a sensible world this news would lead to absolutely rinsing the top 0.1% of earners for 75% income tax

We know that adding car lanes to roads just attracts more cars. We should now try the opposite: take away car lanes, widen pavements, add segregated cycle lanes. We'll find that bigger cars become less attractive and more people walk and cycle. Win for everyone.

UK WRITERS: You need to fill in this consulation. Govt is very clearly looking to an opt-out model of rights licensing that puts all the burden on creators instead of profiteers. It's long and boring but this is important.

And DON'T think "keep up with" means news all the time.

Unless it's a hurricane or bomb warning, NOBODY needs breaking news, let alone "rolling" news. Once or twice a day checking in is enough. Constant info-blast and layers of commentary = burn-out.

You might expect that one of the world's biggest media organisations admitting to illegal practices in accessing private information about a member of the royal family and a government minister would be front page news across the board, but apparently not.

Capital gains tax should be the exact same as income tax. Same rate, same thresholds. We'll throw the rich a bone by allowing double zero rate allowances but that's it. Overnight the country's finances would be fixed and the vast majority of us wouldn't feel any impact.

Brilliant quote from @warrenellis.ltd.web.brid.gy at about Meta's changes...

"For some fields of work, it’s considered a privilege to not have to use social media. ...Perhaps, for the elites, social media is something that happens over there, where you can’t see it, where the Other People are."

The BBC needs to have a debate about whether Musk's outbursts should keep leading the news.

This isn't about censoring or suppressing his views; it's about whether to amplify them.

Most Brits aren't on X, they don't follow Musk & not every raving from a foreign plutocrat should set the news agenda
