In my life I’ve always been predisposed toward forgiving a fuck up and I extend that to game dev too.

Arriving to that conclusion about AI on your own and doing the work to undo it, that takes some integrity I think. I can’t in good faith judge that harshly.
Curious what your stance is on companies that used it and then realized it was a mistake (not from backlash) after the fact and removed it. Im personally a proponent of supporting people that are willing to reevaluate and change. Several small indie projects I've enjoyed had this kind of trajectory.

The AI hype cycle is even better than the blockchain or metaverse hype cycles because any functionality can just be rebranded as AI. Background erase in a photo editor? AI. Procgen tools for environ art based on copious pre-made assets? AI. Reactive NPC dialogue? That's an AI. BETTER INVEST NOW

Using generative AI in gamedev is a major issue, enough so that now the *accusation* of using generative AI in gamedev is becoming its own separate problem

my thing is even I didn't have a fiery personal grudge against Twitter, I would not use it for the same reason I don't use Facebook - it's a miserable user experience. It's nothing but ads and ragebait and ai slop. It doesn't have to be a moral stance, it's just a shit product

You know what you can use to generate ideas? A brain.

I don't believe people when they say they need this abysmal tech to generate ideas, I think they're lying, but people are so disgusted with the tech being used to replace people's jobs, they don't exactly want to admit to what they're doing.
I just saw someone yell “they’re just using it to generate ideas!”

And

I hate to say it

But if you work in the ART DEPARTMENT and you need a death machine stuffed with your colleagues’ work to give you ideas

Quit.

The most important thing in the world is when you're cooking a meal for someone you love and they come and cuddle you from behind, we peaked as a species when we invented that and nothing else has come close.

Doesn’t feel good that the head of BBC News Content is instructing reporters to refer to trans people with slurs. If this leak is real it raises questions about who made this decision, who was consulted, and why the BBC chose to ignore its own editorial guidelines on slurs and offensive language
EXCLUSIVE
The BBC has circulated leaked guidance telling journalists to describe trans women as “biological males”.

Clarity should not come at the cost of dignity. #bbc #humanrights #journalism #transparency #transrights

Again I say: how fucking interesting that remote work technology is bad and not worth adopting despite all research pointing to productivity gains, but genAI which offers NOTHING is so important to adopt and force on people who have no use for it despite all the horrible things genAI does

I've seen lots of acceleration due to the use of AI: acceleration of inequality, acceleration of climate catastrophe, acceleration of slop, acceleration of trust collapse, acceleration of scams, acceleration of model collapsed acceleration of misinformation, acceleration of drought

You really can't minimize the use of genAI without shitting on the labor you are replacing with it.

"We only use it to ideate and explore references! Unimportant things that don't matter! Nobody cares about those things, right? We all agree this is unimportant garbage work, right???"
"I didn’t say we use it to develop concept art" just to make reference, get ideas from and outline composition lmao
just 90% of what concept is🤣

As more and more creators are expected to be on camera to promote their comics, can we talk for a second about how this opens up female creators to intense harassment about their looks?

Not to mention a lot of "You only have a career in comics because you're good looking" comments?

I highly recommend Waterfox.

Its one of the best browsers I've used because it runs well and stays out of your way.

Switching to it felt like pulling a browser from 15 years ago in the good way.

"we USE ai, but our game wont CONTAIN it" is a clarification that no one has ever cared about & now CEOs are using it as a wedge to get their foot in the door as a part of a long term plan into normalizing AI, just like how 'it's just placeholder' was used with E33. dont cede even an inch of ground

AI has actively made life worse for literally everyone

- tech is now more expensive
- you cannot trust most media of reality anymore
- programs barely function
- energy prices
- literal psychosis
- your voice can be literally stolen for evil
- more spyware

but hey, you can avoid paying an artist.
