this is a through-line on a number of jobs that we ask mostly-men to do: they are catastrophically bad for mental health, and we know this, and we do not make sufficient provision for care for it.

not gonna be a popular take but “cop” is one of those jobs

Beyond being an excellent book, the absolute viciousness of its last chapter is a work of art. I've never seen such a good punchline.

I dare you to go to Annunciation School and tell our grieving community, in effect, guns don’t kill kids, antidepressants do.

Just shut up. Stop peddling bullshit. You should be fired.

The shooter at Annunciation Catholic School used an assault weapon to fire dozens of rounds through the stained glass windows of the school’s church—killing two children and wounding 17 others, including 14 children.

I remember what a gigantic deal Columbine was when I was in school.

Now, I doubt it would even register. It's just a danger all children have to be aware of.

How mind-bogglingly cruel is that? How truly evil to simply accept it?

There is so much cool, real health science that I think could really satisfy woo woo urge! Sometimes I think just explaining how pills/bodies work helps patients fill the need for woo woo. Like it helps them place real things into the story of their life or something.
we should talk about this more, if people are going to turn to woo we should steer them towards things that sound like woo but aren’t
so there’s a bean that makes a protein that kills viruses and if you make chewing gum out of the bean and chew it your mouth becomes a virus killing chamber

The book so far as it presents itself as a "what if" and puts forward the idea of a possible "Korean Spring" while I am hesitant to agree with such notions given the state of the KPG and PRK it's sweeping references and knowledge of Korean colonial history and circumstances

Any time I talk about a wealthy person's outfit, someone in the comments is quick to reply: "They're rich, you think they care?" No one has to care about my opinions or clothes, regardless of net worth.

But let's talk about the connection between wealth and aesthetics 🧵
