We don’t talk enough about how Silicon Valley over the past 20 years has completely warped American capitalism’s sense of reasonable returns on investment capital.

Thinking about the many times I've seen "Obama is ignorant" or "AOC doesn't understand economics" or the like while Trump belches out a half-baked insincere proposal for a two-step version of the same ACA subsidy he's trying to eliminate.

NEWS: Federal agents crashed with woman’s car, pointed guns at her, dragged her out by legs, tossed her in a minivan, held her and (eventually) let her go without charges. This as Chicagoans say the immigration blitz is out of control. (DHS blames her.)

Chicago woman dragged out of her car after colliding with ICE demands accountability
The arrest of Dayanne Figueroa highlights growing concerns about the use of force against U.S. citizens and due process. She was released after a few hours without charges.

I mean… you can keep telling me certain things are “totally reasonable” and forbid me from finding them weird, but… it’s still weird, man.
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

absolutely wild to have sort of casually majored in political science 25 years ago and then have to watch people like Johnson give away the legislative store to the executive branch like it’s the most normal thing in the world
Speaker Johnson and the GOP majorities may have given the power to send US taxpayer dollars to a foreign country to the executive branch, but the Constitution clearly gives that power to Congress.

(This is why I’ve had to teach my US foreign policy class this semester as a sort of before-and-after)
RAJU: Given how dire things are for so many Americans right now, how do you justify the administration giving this big massive bailout to Argentina?

MIKE JOHNSON: Look, we give the execution of foreign policy to the executive branch. We trust the president. Let's talk about the government shutdown

I am 43 and love basketball so unsurprisingly I irrationally love this song. But… hearing it overplayed and overhyped since NBC got NBA rights back, I’ve gone from from blaming pure nostalgia to eventually accepting that it’s just an incredible banger on the merits, sepia-toned memories be damned.

it’s not a particularly bold prediction, but i expect none of these companies will still be in business five years from now
The grind culture that birthed many Big Tech companies from Google to Amazon is back.

As the AI race heats up, startups are promoting hardcore cultures like “996,” or working 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week.
Why these companies insist on a 72-hour work week
Start-ups are promoting hardcore cultures such as “996,” meaning working from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. six days a week, as they race to compete in AI.

great example of him being an idiot leading to more and more power grabbing. “Is the funding terminated” is not a good question to ask him because the only correct answer is “no” (it’s not how funding things works), but he’s only going to ever give the most “I am awesome” answer he can think of.
Q: You talked about the Hudson River Tunnel in NYC. Is the funding terminated?

TRUMP: Right now there is no funding. Because it's up to me

Great economist with a frustratingly uninformed take. If you build applications that depend on LLM AI (and I’m on my second one!), you will frequently find yourself in a position this says doesn’t exist — well-informed and disappointed.

That’s where I am, and I’ve put in the hours to earn it.
There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.

you’d think the aggrieved would recalibrate their definitions of “thought police” in an era where the FCC is pushing comedians off of late night network television, but nope, it still means “lots of people think I’m wrong” for some reason
