BREAKING: A full-scale airlift is running around the clock, transporting troops and military equipment to Greenland.
The operation is extensive, “beyond anything we’ve tried before,” a source tells DR. Danish F-35 fighter planes and warships from European allies involved.

I think TGA also has a generational Euro-centreleftish fear of what Europe might become again if it restarts a Griff zur Weltmacht. But I think Europe and Europeans are down a great power path with unavoidable internal and external risks that will have to be fought over in EUCO, EP, MS politics

The United States needs military access to Greenland, which it already has, to defend the Arctic, which it already does, from Russian and Chinese ships, which aren’t actually there, and this is so important we should destroy the Western alliance to get it, do I have that right?

I think the disconnect between Atlantic elites is that Americans think Donald Trump is a kid getting to drive a monster truck for Make A Wish and Europeans and Canadians think Donald Trump is the president of the United States.

By kow-towing to Trump on trade the EU convinced him, and others no doubt, that it was weak, which just encourages more bullying. If as a result the US takes Greenland by force, the EU will have to do much more forceful things than imposing a 35% tariff or whatever. Weakness makes us all less safe.

Is it possible that certain politicians defend X because "those on the other side“ criticize it? Has UK politics become so moronically polarized and binary that people would say the most absurd things simply because it is the opposite of what the others say? Is this a pathetic culture war issue now?

Totally agree. I have been saying for a long time that Ukraine has been buying time, at a terrible cost, for the rest of Europe to wake up and respond effectively to the Russian threat. Most Western European leaders still seem to be sleeping.
“So, no longer speak about “aiding” Ukraine. The Ukrainians are aiding Europeans and Americans by fighting for their survival. We owe them our gratitude, not the other way around.”

If Pahlavi comes back to Tehran I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of IRGC leaders and units suddenly rebrand comfortably in a new regime as part of an Iranian Royal Guard Corps
Though the IRGC cutting a deal with Iranian monarchists in the style of the New Model Army agreeing terms with Charles II after Cromwell's death is an interesting scenario to consider

Yes, there are exceptions in the Copenhagen convention regarding safety and environment

But we need not that, these ships with false flags are lawless. Any nations navy can stop them anywhere (incl intl waters) to further investigate their status.

The goal is open for Baltic States on these ships.

Again what European leader is calling Trump and pulling a Mark Carney???

Elbows out, Europe. Or else this really could get out of control. And it would mean the end of NATO. Time to escalate to deescalate.
Trump: "I'm a fan of Denmark too. They've been very nice to me. But the fact that they had a boat land there [Greenland] 500 years ago doesn't mean they own the land. I'm sure we had lots of boats go there also."

Ok, now let me put the griping aside. This is a big geopolitical move. It is great that the elected leaders of Europe made a democratic, collective decision to lower trade barriers with Mercosur countries. Interchange with Europe is a powerful attraction! (Reopen griping: but 25 years was too long.)
The EU really knows how to hide its light under a bushel. It has just passed the world's biggest trade deal (with Mercosur) - using a written procedure among ambassadors, making the public barely notices a huge strategic step forward for Europe. Contrast with Trump's made-for-TV signing ceremonies.

If he means WWII, there were no US casualties in Greenland during the war. The casualties from patrols destroying Nazi weather bases were Danish.

If he means SS Dorchester getting torpedoed near Greenland, that's part of the Battle of the Atlantic, which wasn't about protecting Greenland.
Ogles: "It's important that we have a stake in Greenland, that they are quite frankly a protectorate of the US. They've been in relationship with Denmark - that needs to end. We've spilled more blood protecting Greenland than the Danes... we are the dominant predator force in the Western Hemisphere"

The coalition of the willing is spending too much time on hypothetical postwar scenarios and not enough on pressuring Russia to actually end its war on Ukraine.

Without that pressure, the war will continue and postwar plans will be worthless
