Totally insane story from The Information: NVIDIA (an investor in Lambda) is now their biggest customer. Lambda recently raised $500m in debt to buy GPUs, secured using the GPUs it already owns.

My prevailing suspicion right now is that the majority of *all* AI compute demand, worldwide, is Microsoft, Amazon, and Google (at a stretch), with most of that going toward either OpenAI or Anthropic. I do not think robust demand exists outside these two companies. If I am right that is very bad.

The problem is that the actual economic significance of LLMs is very small - $40bn this year? - compared to the economic activity required to sustain it ($400bn+ capex/vc). Will every government fund every data center buildout? What about their capex? Or will the illusion break?
The assumption I assume now is that OpenAI and it's clients need to convince the government to prop it up before then...even then, I dunno if that'd save them from being torn apart by the markets when the wind changes.
