There is no serious trade expert who thinks the UK's deal with the US is definitively better than that of the EU. There are lots of generalist commentators using them for their own stale talking points. The UK did OK. So did the EU. Neither were great.
The trade agreement Brussels reached with Donald Trump on Sunday wasn’t even hailed as a triumphant victory by Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president who negotiated it.

But post-Brexit Britain’s apparently superior trade agreement perhaps stings most of all.
Brexiteers gloat over Trump’s EU trade ‘disaster,’ but has Britain really won?
While the U.K.’s low-tariff agreement with America is a Brexit bonus, victory over Europe may not be what Keir Starmer needs.

As predicted, the front pages of BBC & CNN are full of Israel-Iran.

Nothing on Gaza or West Bank. Remember that all comms are cut in Gaza as they starve.

Exactly what Netanyahu wanted.

They can do anything they like now as the vapid MSM chase the new squirrel released for their distraction.

Former Tory MP Nicholas Soames on Rees-Mogg:

"He is an absolute fraud, he is a living example of what a moderately cut double-breasted suit & a decent tie can do with an ultra-posh voice and a bit of ginger stuck up his arse."
People misread Rees-Mogg all the time. He's not an aristocracy story but a social mobility story: the grandson of a lorry driver who made it to pretending to be a lord. It's the British Dream.
The funny thing about Rees Mogg and his TV show is that he actually isn't upper class. He just acts like it.

People replying 'it's all ageing'... well ageing is not random. It's the product of innovation in healthcare, changes in knowledge about what causes ill health, changes in behaviour responding to that or otherwise, choices to spend on prolonging life or not.

The FCDO is by far the biggest loser in today's spending review. Day-to-day spending is down by almost 7% in real terms. Add to that the govt's decision to cut the ODA budget to 0.3% of GNI, and it's hard to see how the UK can be an effective foreign policy actor with such a major hit to its budget.
