When I ran a research group, I'd tell my students that when you appear to have uncovered something anomalous, the first thing you say to yourself is "I fucked up". And the second thing you say is "I'm so stupid I can't even see where I fucked up".

No one is teaching Elon's script kiddies this.

With COP30 underway, Climate Action Against Disinformation releases a report showing how both Big Carbon and Big Tech are sabotaging climate action worldwide. Cites examples of legislation that has been effective in limiting the harms of disinformation.
🚨 Our new report, Deny, Deceive, Delay: Demystified, is out now. 🚨

The report explores how Big Carbon and Big Tech use disinformation to sabotage climate action and why, despite 89% of people worldwide demanding stronger action, progress gets derailed.

Real question though. Does anyone else ever feel manipulated by the tech bros? Like, if I wanted to convince you to never put your social media device down, this is the meme I would use.
We used to call that a dark pattern, and it was unacceptable.

Over these past decades, software has coached us into thinking like a computer. Not necessarily on purpose, but because the software wasn't designed to be usable by thinking like a human.

This side effect was a net positive for libertarians, who leapt from anti-human software to an anti-human world

A regulator that declines to use its enforcement powers, that actively works to undermine and erode the laws it is supposed to be upholding, is worse than having no regulator at all.

It is very gratifying than to be able to, without much thought, walk away from years of interdependence on the Mac/Win ecosystem mostly because it has become a dumpster fire.

To be able to just gut the system of Windows and put the box to work as a Linux NAS is very very satisfying.
After almost 40 years in the #Apple ecosystem with occasional pit stops in #Windows, I'm taking my 30 years of enterprise Linux experience and using it as an escape hatch from companies that just want to fellate a babyman because they spent the last 20 years buying back stocks instead of innovating.
It took about 4 minutes. It was wild.
