When you are using the "AI" framing, does the way you talk about "AI" carry water for the Sam Altmans of the world? That is, are you helping to paint a picture of their tech as inevitable, all powerful, and/or anything other than commercial products?

If you have been framing your work as involving/in relation to "AI", what do you mean by "AI"? How would you describe your work without using that phrase?

Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.

Remarkable that every boss talks about how amazing AI is, all the way up until that AI's outputs hit people whose jobs don't depend on agreeing, at which point they inevitably have to conceal that they are using AI.

The shitty Coke ad studio. Games that use AI generated assets. Support chatbots.
The studio that made the shitty coca-cola AI ad getting their teeth kicked in on socials bc of how icky bad it is, then the studio CEO coming out insulting and dismissing folks kicking their teeth in, and THEN releasing the worst ever cover up “hey we actually made this by hand” scam vid

Identifying flaws in GenAI unfortunately offers a pretext for claims that perfecting the product is just a matter of time & money. So pointing to chatbots’ role in,say, suicides can only go so far if we don’t also identify the systemic, irresolvable lack of Gen AI’s human commitment bc math has none

This whole business model needs to be burned to the ground.
"OpenAI is facing seven lawsuits claiming ChatGPT drove people to suicide and harmful delusions even when they had no prior mental health issues. The lawsuits filed Thursday in California state courts allege wrongful death, assisted suicide, involuntary manslaughter and negligence."

Actually, I say let's go ahead and let these guys brand AI slop as Web 4.0. Hear me out: this framework accepts that Web 3.0 really was just 18 months or so of people trying to sell cartoon jpgs for profit, and establishes a trend line wherein "AI platforms" are the next devolutionary step.
I just got an email declaring "Web 4.0 is dawning."

No it isn't. Shut up. What is wrong with you? Have some fucking self-respect.

a huge part of the gen ai project is to create the mythic past that is central to the fascist narrative: the non-existent golden age that needs to be restored and the supposed fallen present that must be overturned. if these things are lies then reality itself must be altered to make them true
Again, this precise use case is why these systems exist-to proliferate people’s racist (transphobic, misogynistic…) imaginary at scale. This should not be seen as a “misuse” but rather the product being used exactly as intended.

Even if you were willing to buy that an LLM/Gen AI tool has human-like intellect, you’re still left with the fact that an LLM doesn’t NEED a job to remain alive under capitalism, but a human does.

morality-wise, surely many would agree that humans should thus be given priority for jobs due to need
