"I don't know how to explain to you why you should care about other people." - Lauren Morrill

I'm going to start a thread, beginning today, of all the things President Trump says or does that I strongly disagree with.

Ongoing list, so I don't forget:
BREAKING

As expected, President Trump just signed an executive order withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization.

The United States provides around 16% of WHO’s annual budget…over $200 million.
CBS and Fox are both effectively state media at this point. The internal immune system is still fighting it at CBS, but ultimately the directive to protect the administration will outweigh any journalistic concerns.
1. BREAKING

Sharyn Alfonsi, a correspondent for 60 Minutes, sent an internal email to colleagues stating that CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss “spiked our story” about the Trump administration and the transfer of deportees to a prison in El Salvador.

I endorse this Canadian propaganda.

Until the US government demonstrates an ability to be responsive and effective, it's difficult to make the case for our system of government.

No painting could be a better representation of Internet opinions, as the speaker in the painting believes he's speaking truth to the masses, but really he's just forcing everyone to hear his terrible take (not rebuilding a school that burned down to save on taxes).
"It's kind of crazy that Internet culture and memes have made this perhaps the most famous Normal Rockwell painting. Before those came to be, it probably wasn't in the top five."

Sadly, they're right. Due to volatile US leadership, allies can no longer rely on the US Nuclear Umbrella.

The world is about to get more dangerous, and nuclear risk about to grow, because our president doesn't like democratic allies and decided to squeeze them for a couple extra bucks.

I have no idea what might be in the Epstein files. But the framing here - that an incomplete tranche of *heavily redacted* files somehow exonerates the powerful and wealthy - is exactly why mainstream media has lost all credibility.
Epstein files released so far show little to support allegations of previously unknown accomplices
The DOJ on Friday began publicly releasing what an official said would be "several hundred thousand" documents from its Epstein files.

Youth delight in rebellion and transgression. When liberal society (rightly!) expands the boundaries of what society will accept, what remains unacceptable is only the outlandish.

Anyhow, Nazi Youth.

If Democrats have a window to passing anti-corruption legislation - and could do so in a way that would undermine the GOP House Speaker - and the Democratic House Leader chooses to torpedo that effort, it doesn't just raise questions, it answers them.
“We heroically defeated an attempt to make ourselves ethical, please rush us $3”
Confirmed: House Democratic leaders have decided to use a stock trading ban bill as a campaign issue rather than actually pass something that had the GOP support to advance.
Jeffries' team is actively discouraging participation in the bipartisan bill and warning outside groups too.

At a certain point, the volume of outlandish actions overwhelms your nervous system, and it becomes impossible to register shock.

But seeing so many egregious acts listed together really hammers home what a dystopia this is.

every article about Elon that doesn’t start with the fact that he starved thousands of children to death is malpractice

this man should not be walking around free let alone as a respectable member of society
NEW: Without USAID funding to help buy food for refugees, the World Food Program rushed to prioritize families based on need, determining that only half the population would get food.

Refugees learned which half they were in from a number stamped on the back of their ration card.
After Trump Officials Cut Food Aid to Kenya, Children Starved to Death
“Brutal and traumatizing”: Interviews and a trove of internal documents show government officials and aid workers desperately tried to warn Trump advisers about impending disaster and death.

The strikes are obviously illegal regardless of location, but this is a WILD breadth of strikes.
I'm not sure if people realize the murder strikes are taking place across a large region. It's quite staggering.

I just came out of the briefing with Sec. Rubio and Sec. Hegseth on the military strikes in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. Here's what I learned.

Bottom line: there is no legal or national security justification for what they're doing. Not even close.

this has always been the most baffling and depressing thing about the political hellscape we have lived through in the last decade

there is nothing there at all except a rapacious, all-consuming need for praise, no humanity at all, nothing but a carnival barker's ability to work the crowd
Virginia Heffernan wrote this shortly after the 2016 election and it still holds true

The Supreme Court’s Shadowy Plan to Subvert Democracy
In making frequent, ill use of the “shadow docket,” the high court is not just handing Trump policy victories. It’s upending the rule of law.

Some Dems have told themselves only ~1% of the population is trans so they can dip their toe in the anti-trans filth and come out clean.

I don't have any trans family members—but it still makes me irate. I see it as a huge red flag, a sign you are unprincipled and untrustworthy. And I'm not alone.
We are parents of a trans kid and our family takes this very, very personally. If you intentionally make life harder for our beloved daughter, it’s EXTREMELY hard to think of you as an ally, to say the least. @amyklobuchar.com - you still send us requests for money, while hurting our kid. Disgusted.
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->

Accurate.

What I use this platform for:

1) Gaining information from smarter people
2) Seeing funny things
3) Shouting into the void

Persuasion does not happen, either here or on X, and posting is not meaningfully impactful action.
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.

It's very clear where social media, and specifically FB/IG, stand on fascism.
If you're wondering "what sponsors are funding the Gathering of the Chuddalos", it's all your standard usual suspects (Bible charities, gun groups, grifters, unaccredited Christian community colleges) and...
Oh!
Facebook/Instagram. Right there. The #3 listed sponsor.

Any vote of 116-2 in the UN means something horrific is happening, and everyone agrees except the two countries perpetrating the horror.
"That text was adopted by a recorded vote of 116 in favour to 2 against (Israel, United States) with 54 abstentions."

As noted in the dissent below, the end point of this rapid descent into unchecked Executive power will be an Executive Branch that replaces most government employees with ideological loyalists.

This project is already well underway, from the FBI to the military to regulatory agencies.
In her dissent, Judge Pan says the emerging view of executive power by Trump and his backers in the courts "concentrates excessive power in the President and thus paves the way to autocracy." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

I don't have a crystal ball, but if there was a betting market for the future of America, this is where I'd put my chips. 👇🏼
I'm not an 'there won't be elections' doomer. I'm a long-term doomer. I think the pendulum will swing back and Dems will regain power and then face an even more hostile press than before and won't have the votes to restructure the courts and we'll be in this awful cycle for the rest of my life.
