The Horses thing is making me feel crazy in a very different way than other discourse. Games are treated very differently from film mainly because the very people who play games still see the medium as a T O Y

The Horses stuff is very tiring because so many in games like the idea of games being “art” when it suits them, but revert to “nooo games are fun toys” when it makes them uncomfortable.

Wrote this back in the summer for @redpeppermag.bsky.social and I worry its only going to become increasingly relevant. For as much as they parrot the language of neurodiversity, this is a government that is intrinsically hostile to neurodivergent people. www.redpepper.org.uk/society/disa...

The political and media class are basically desperate for any evidence that it's the phones that have caused all of the problems, from why people hate the mainstream parties to mental health issues. All while they've clearly been radicalised in part by social media.
This is basically going to be "Get off your phone and into work" isn't it?

It stops sorting your inbox into folders, btw, when you turn this off. As the inbox folders predate Gemini, this is a passive-aggressive attempt to make gmail a miserable experience unless you turn AI on, not a necessity.

Really, *really* inconvenient but makes me more determined to keep it off.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

How have we found ourselves here as a country? A supposedly centre-left government unable to rule out child detention.

Will Labour MPs now ask – how have they found themselves here as a party? And, more importantly, what do they plan to do about it?
Lots of Labour MPs asking Mahmood tonight to rule out child detention. She won’t rule it out. That’s because forced removals of families will mean children in detention for periods.

Home Office ruling out deportation of lone minors but the changes will certainly mean more detention of children.

the one good thing about this guy winning his seat at the last election will be him losing his seat at the next one
Labour MP Luke Akehurst says he "wholeheartedly welcomes" Mahmood's plans "which I believe will tackle a failure by the previous government to maintain one of the most basic fundamental functions of government, which is control of our borders."

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

The TLDR on the "Hitler DNA" story, as with most new Hitler stories, is that we don't really have any new or earth shattering information about the guy. He definitely had Parkinsons. He may have had an undescended testicle. none that changes what we know about the guy.
Right. Hitler's DNA. Brace yourselves for a deluge of misinformation and bad science.

Honestly I love a good illustrated, pre-rendered background, particularly from old '90s CRPGs. They give a certain magic to their worlds that modern games struggle to convey.
