Sora is not the real problem here. The real problem is that in 12, at most 24 months, there will be a Sora clone from Tencent or Alibaba that is just as good and can be run by anybody with a 5099, at which point everyone in society needs to rapidly agree to treat all digital video as fake, period.

If *your department head and your dean* can be removed for supporting your colleague in teaching in their area of expertise, then you have no academic freedom. In a functional sense, you don't work at a university at all.
Faculty in red states are being punished for failing to signal in their course descriptions that their classes will include content on "gender ideology."

Remind me again which party was appalled by idea of "trigger warnings"?

The Department of Justice has also acknowledged the situation and said it would be investigating.

Climate change is altering the natural world’s soundscape, with declining bird, insect, and amphibian populations leading to quieter environments. This “sensory extinction” is exacerbated by noise pollution from human activities.

They fucking disappeared Hamdan Ballal. Sheer impunity, knowing the US isn't going to say shit.

"As he was being treated in an ambulance, soldiers detained him and a second Palestinian man, the [Center for Jewish Nonviolence] said. It said his whereabouts were now unknown."
Oscar-winning Palestinian director is attacked by Jewish settlers and detained, activists say
Activists say Israeli settlers beat up one of the Palestinian co-directors of the Oscar-winning film “No Other Land” in the occupied West Bank, and he was then detained by the Israeli military.

I think the absolute death of empathy in the U.S. has been a huge factor in the rise of fascism, and nowhere is that more clear than in the behavior of drivers.
For folks who've been playing along for a while, the vanguard for the end of rule of law have been American drivers, who realized about a ~ decade ago that they could maim and kill people with no repercussions.

Our current bout of fascism is just a mild expansion of that ethical/legal framework.
i used to believe it was against the law to break the law, feeling pretty silly about that now

A few linguistic observations from teaching media production: students have used "shooting" and "footage" to refer to both video and audio, i.e. "I'm going to shoot some audio"; audio is increasingly becoming a standalone noun, as in "Let's listen to an audio" or "I'm going to record some audios"
