It's worth noting that this is among anti-trump coverage and honest rhetoric and reporting of the state of the economy and the country.
It's not in the middle of the Times front page, where other stories are reporting on "business as usual".
Implying it is "defending the state" is disingenuous.

I want to be clear I am not speaking from opinion or principle, because we don't do that. It is not our business. Our business is politics, and this is malpractice on the scale of turning left from home plate. The public's standard is low: swing and get knocked down. But you have to keep swinging.
